Factory Collect / ED from the UK

Do any of you UK guys know the truthful reason why we can never do factory collect?

Really annoys me off that people on the other side of the world can do this, yet we're just a few hours away and can't!

I did it once with Mercedes when I bought a C63 AMG and it was a great (and free) experience, but even Mercedes have now withdrawn this as an option for the UK. BMW (as far as I know) have never offered this option to UK customers and I believe only Porsche do this now.

I believe it's to do with the pricing . You can get the equivalent M6 made as a right hand drive option over in Germany around 20% cheaper . Merc have stopped this , due to complaints from UK distributors . I looked into this I purchased mine . Porsche on the other hand , just classes there cars as imports , so resale value is never the same as UK cars.

They are just trying to manipulate the market now and prevent independent garages going over to Europe a putting an order for 5 cars and saving 20%. But what you can do is to put an order in German, from a dealer then collecting it . It just does not make scenes !

I would have loved to have done this too. Would have been a lot quicker as well- my M6 was built a fortnight ago but is still sat in the port in Germany... Grr

DNW, are you getting a coupe or GC? Is it replacing or adding to your other cars?

Trading my X3 for it. It's to drive 5 mins to the station and back each day- but suspect I'll find plenty of reasons to go further afield- basically a totally extravagant mid-30s crisis purchase at least the mpg won't matter!

It's the Coupe, don't need back doors/seats and unlikely ever to. Plus other half has a F10 LCI for the odd occasion we might need them.
