Any M6 or M6 GC owners actually performed the exhaust valve mod?

I need tips on how to access the controller solenoid.

I adjusted my tips today, and I saw that the solenoid for the flapper is way on the outer pipe and nestled against the corner of the bumper. I removed the outer tip and barely could put my hand up on it, let alone string a piece of wire and tie it. Almost seems like you need to unbolt the exhaust and let it hang down and do the mod, or remove the bumper.

I looked at pics of the M5, and that car has way more room to work under the bumper than the GC. Like literally I had to take a second to find the solenoid bc it was hiding behind the bumper.

Any tips? I approached this with the car flat on the ground and from behind. Do I actually need to be under the car and looking it downstream to access it?

Btw I have the Akra MPE. But should be the same as OEM

I went with Exhaust Meister. You plug it into the trunk behind the driver side carpet and then you can set up your mirror home link buttons to open/close the flaps. It comes with 2 remotes as well and I think it's around $120 or so.

I did this mod on my M6GC... it's definitely a tad louder on start up.... but the exhaust is still a bit "mild".... I am off the next two weeks and seriously considering building a muffler delete and install........

I'm unsure if I want to do the mod now. As you said, it'll be the same sound you get at startup, just the entire time.

Agree with Malcoll. My M6 is bog standard, apart from the exhaust valve mod. Marginally more sound on cold startup, but not really much difference once running. I've also disconnected the ASD unit, so now I can hear the REAL sound! Much better...

I did this with car on ground. Use a long screwdriver to push valve open, I used top plastic tie straps to hold open. A little louder at idle and start-up, but not loud on the go

I haven't driven the car with the mod yet. If not real difference, then I'll probably just revert it back.

I did mine with circlips instead of using plastic. Definitely louder on cold start and lower revs. No difference at higher revs. Main benefit for me is that the car sounds much more throaty at lower revs when pootling about around town but at higher revs the flaps would open anyway so no real difference.

Seeing as it's a very cheap and simple mod it's definitely worthwhile doing to see if you like it. Easy enough to change back.

Same here... However to get the most out of the cold start, just replace your OEM downpipes with high flow non-catted downpipes.

Love those tips. Pure sex. Any chance you know the inlet and outlet size of those?

Sorry, I don't have those CF tips. Someone else said the Akra is a 67mm inlet. I cannot confirm.

Did you deactivate the ASD? Before doing that the drone was almost unbearable, with ASD off, I like it and actually am considering the Muffler Delete......

No I didn't and at motorway speeds the drone was driving me crazy. If it was the ASD "enhancing" the noise I'll give disabling that a try as I definitely prefer the sound of the car with the valve mod.

I did an extended drive myself yesterday. I have the MPE/Akra and the drone was loud. Not sure if related to this mod. And my ASD has been removed.
