New M6 / M5 brake pads shipping from BMW from December 2016

For your info

BMW has been shipping an updated design brake pad for the M5 and M6 to dealers from December 2016

The pad part number has not changed but teh pads have been updated for better noise resistance

These are an update of the April 2014 pad with balance weights taht replaced the pre April 2014 pad without balance weights

Dealers have also been given a new pad Bed In Procedure:

Quote:
Repeat 5 times:
Increase speed to 62mph then gently brake to 31mph within 1/3mile

Then

Repeat 5 times
Increase speed to 62mph and brake to 31mph witin 0.15 miles

Then

Repeat 5 times:

Increase speed to 62mph then gently brake to 31mph within 1/3mile

Then drive moderately till brakes cool to ambient temperature

This is not a recall, just an update to the pads

These are the first 2 pad types.
No pictures yet of new pads

Original OEM pads without damper weights (Before April 2014)

The X5M also received new pads recently
These changed to the new "bonded pads" that have and adhesive backing to fix tehm to the caliper.
This eliminates the use of grease, decreases noise and guarantees pad alignment

the new 7 Series (G11/G12) and new 5 Series (G30) also use these "bonded pads)

My guess is the new M6 pads are the same type
