Tire Question 20inch
With just over 8k miles one of my tires had developed a small bubble. From what I read online the stock Dunlop Maxx tires are garbage. So many people are reporting problems with these tires right at 8K mark. I'm trying to figure out what the best option is for me at this point. I like the look of the 20 inch rims so I don't want to go to a smaller size. I see on tire rack that I can go either to Bridgestone Potenza or Perelli runflat tires. They also have Continental all season tires that are not run flats. I guess I can always get a portable spare... what would you guys recommend

Michelin Pilot SuperSport seem to be the best allround tires from what I've read. I only have 10k on my car, but those are the ones I'm going with when I have to replace my stock tires.

+1 for the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I have the 19" wheels on my GC and the MPSS are win win, better performance and a much more forgiving ride compared to the run flats. During the winter months I use the original Goodyear LS-2s, since the MPSS is a summer tire.
I bought the Emergency Space Saver tire from Bimmerzone and I keep in the trunk. |

I have the staggered wheels rears 275/30/20 and Fronts 245/35/20. My only choices seem to be the Pirelli/ Bridgestones if I am to stay with run flats so I am wondering which brand is better. Also do you have part number on the space saver?

Also since the roads around NY/NJ are covered with pot holes I was wondering if it is better to stick with the run flats since they have much thicker side walls?

Especially with 20"s, it's the opposite effect, you will have less forgiveness with RFT. Without RFT you have a better chance of avoiding bent wheels and bubbling on sidewalls.

Here is the one I purchased: http://www.bimmerzone.com/BMW_Perfor...T-F12-KIT.html
I agree with Shake - the stiff RFTs seem more prone to wheel and tire damage than the non RFTs. |

The Conti's DWS tires are all seasons, which would be important if you plan on driving in the winter. I think the Pilot Super Sports are summer tires. Both the Pilot Super Sports and current run-flats will handle better (in the dry) than the DWS.
I got this (and the Conti DWS all season non-rft) http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/detail.jsp?ID=38 and it fits nicely in the trunk under the mat.

Are you saying to OEM run flats handle better than the DWS ?? |

Not that I tested on a skidpad But the OEM run-flats seemed to handle significantly better then the DWS.
The steering is much lighter with the DWS and the handling seems sloppy. The ride of course is pretty sweet

I used to have this tire for about 2 years on my 650i and was perfect. In fact I replaced those bubbly Good year tires with Bridgestone after 5k miles. It's soft compound tire (140) so has perfect grip even with DSC OFF ...doesn't last too long but worth to spend that money

After much consideration I think I am going to purchase a portable spare and go to all season Continentals. With the NY winters it is necessary. I am wondering if I buy another 20 inch front rim if I can use it as a full size spare instead of the $300 donut. Would the front rim fit the rear if needed? I have the staggered 20' configuration
