Did you dyne the car before you removed the filters?

I removed mine and only dyno'ed after removal, it seemed louder to me with some increased throttle response, don't know about the hp gain.

They are only in there because CA mandates them... so the entire US market gets them.

I honestly felt a night & day difference the moment I took mine off.

The throttle response was definitely quicker...

I was fortunate to have my BMW shop foreman help me with this removal

Do you know if Canadian cars have Charcoal filters?

I believe the entire North American market gets them.

Check in the black filter box housings at the bottom left and right corners of the engine bay. Be careful to clean thoroughly and to make sure no debris from the filters is left behind or it will end up in the engine.

Doesn't hurt to open up the passenger side first to double check.

(Much easier side incase there is no charcoal filter)

Instructions

Aside from removing the filter box covers, where do the charcoal filters sit so I can remove them?

Additionally, is there a negative side affect from removing these charcoal filters?

As soon as you open the cover you'll see them sitting on the yellow air filters. As far as a negative effect all I can think of is that you're removing an extra layer of protection for keeping rocks and other debris out your engine, but considering Euro-spec cars don't have this and that this is only in US-spec vehicles cause California requires it there seems to be very little concern with removing them. Theoretically by removing them you're freeing up space in the air boxes for increased airflow, so I think the benefit is far more obvious than any possible risk.
