Exclamation Interior Trim Help/suggestion Needed

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello everyone, plz see attached photos, I belive the damage is from last owner who had sticker and did excessive cleanning. I can feel the grain/texture is wearing out and its more glossy/smooth.

Went to an interior trim shop they charge $245 to dye and make it "less noticible". anyone had similar repair? how good is the outcome?

Wondering if this is the best way to do it? It's a huge part which i dont wanna make it worse.

Thank you!

That does appear to be permanent damage. That material is what BMW calls leather, but it's really a manufactured leather that contains some percentage of real leather. Just the part (the whole dash panel) from an online discount dealer is almost $3,500, plus a large amount to have it installed. So unless you want to pay at least $5,000 to make it like new, having it sprayed is your only option. The person you talked to is correct, it will only be less noticeable, it will not be perfect. The grain has been smoothed out, and it has a ridge around it where the surface was "melted" but not removed. I predict it will still be fairly noticeable, especially since you knew it was there.

Hmm...kind of looks like the damage that occurs on the center armrest...but that usually comes from the transfer of body sweat/lotion/etc. This damage to the dash makes me wonder if a previous passenger put their nasty feet on the dash.

Looks to me to be what the OP thinks - somebody used a solvent on it to get off sticker residue.

thanks for sharing, I probably gonna give it a shot, hopefully they can match the color and make it less glossy to a certain degree.

or maybe try to put a cool sticker or gadget to cover it? I dont know

If you get it sprayed, post an after pic. I'd be curious how it turns out. They should be able to match the dull sheen fairly well.

Fortunately, that was not a pic of my car...that was an internet pic grab.

Although, it was something I saw frequently when I was searching for my 6. It also made me aware that the center armrest could get messed up...so I keep a soft towel in the door pocket...so anytime I'm wearing a short sleeve shirt and my right arm is bare...I will fold that towel on the center armrest to prevent anything transferring to the leather.

I got creases too on my console leather. I thought is common issues? Was told is pvc not real leather as leather should not have creases issue at all.

Yours, as well as the picture QSilver posted above, are of interiors that do not have the "leather" dash option. You can tell because it has a much grainier texture. The "leather" option is much smoother, like in the OP's photos above. So no, yours is not leather. As I said above, the "leather" option is not true leather either - it's a manufactured product that contains some leather..

Am I the only one that prefers the non leather option? When I was looking for mine I couldn't find a single one in a 6 month search that wasn't damaged in some way

I think Opie55 is right- my console and the dash has the smooth leather.
I use the zaino leather spray and conditioner on them ever so often- I am hoping they hold up until the trade in.

I don't think leather conditioner does much to that stuff because it is not porous at all and has very little leather in it. Stuff like Lexol just dries to a white haze on the surface. I just apply 303 Protectant now and then to give it UV protection and it gives it a slight new-car sheen.
