I spoke with my insurer, Covea again this afternoon. Having reviewed my submission from yesterday, they increased their offer from £18,300 to £19,160 which I decided to accept. I think that's fair because BMW Halliwell Jones in Warrington has a late 2012 grey one with 12,000 miles less than mine for sale at £19,980. My £875 excess means I receive £18,285 but that's the penalty for low annual premiums all these years (£390 in my case). Just goes to show the rewards from a bit of effort.
More good news is my insurance broker said I can transfer my old policy into a new vehicle when I get one and my premium will only be impacted by this claim when it comes up for renewal in October next year. So I am now on the lookout for a well spec'd Gran Coupe. |

No. For two reasons
1. Depreciation on these cars from new is astronomical. When my 640d M Sport coupe was new, it cost somebody a notional £72k. I bought it 2 1/2 years later from a BMW dealer with 30,000 miles and still in as new condition for £30k. That's well over £42k depreciation in less than 3 years! Now 3 and a bit years later on and with a further 37,000 miles virtually trouble free motoring, it has only depreciated a further £11,000. That's about £290 per month which seems much better value to me. 2. To buy new I would need to finance. I have only ever used finance to buy our homes. PCP plans are very popular these days but after paying a deposit and then £600 or so per month for 3 years for a new car, you are left with nothing at the end. There are lots of intermediaries making a lot of money out of these plans. I am a rather OldSkool and only feel comfortable when I actually own my cars. So I would rather be patient and save the money I would have spent on PCP over 3 years and use it to buy a 2 or 3 year old car outright. I can live with it not being brand new. |

Totally agree with you on this too....
Depreciation is mental (think I benefited mind you ) A family member purchased mine new for a tidy £78,200; 3yrs later sold it to me with 10k for £29k I hope you manage to find a decent spec'd one soon and I'm sure you'd be like me and rather walk in the snow/ice next time.

2013 650ix, 14,500 miles, just off 3 year lease, 1 year left on BMW warranty, CPO warranty 2 more years, $100,500 window, car immaculate, $46000. I love this car. New? That would be crazy.

Without getting excessively hung up about figures my GC LCI was registered Sept 2015, I purchased it for £47k with 2200 miles on in Jan/Feb 2016. List price was a mental £77k. Whether we like it or not the 6 was/is a terrible seller in the UK. Most of the time sadly the size of said cars puts people off. The few that I know elsewhere also sight the ride and not being very sporty as problems. The last bit I find a bit dumb it is approaching a 2000kg car for godsake and is around 5 metres long. It was never going to be hugely nimble! Also on the grapevine I do not think there is any for the UK order books now and those that are in build have been ordered some time ago. |

I was quoted an offer of £59,192 for 640d MSport Limited edition that the list price is about £84,000 (a saving of £24,888 (29.6%)) with 0% APR. Though the interior supposed to be more luxurious, it just feel a bit dated compared to my G30 with cognac upholstery and aluminium rhombicle trim. The other factor holding me back is the negative equity of £5500 to £8000 on my G30
However my mind continues to go bak to it. I need to be financially responsible. I don't seem to be able to make up my mind |

Agreed, after I had the new 7 series the 6 does feel dated inside, the gadgets are all there, just a little more clunky and last generation. I would happily go G30 if they did the m550i/d here in the uk, the 6 is still a might fine tool though and a bargain at that and in agood way not everyones cup of tea !!

I have now found and reserved a late 2015 Grand Coupe 640d M Sport in carbon black with black interior. Comes well optioned including Driving Assist Plus, 20 inch wheels, black nappa, comfort seats, sunroof, HUD, Harmon Kardon, sunblinds, comfort access, reverse camera and multi functional instrument panel. I would have liked surround view and rather liked the soft close doors of my old one but I can happily live with this list.
My insurance broker has just transferred my existing policy into the new car for £47 due to the new car's higher value plus £25 administration fee. I am now just awaiting transfer from Covea into my account of the settlement figure we agreed which is promised mid-week when they receive my V5 (which should be today). I have arranged to pick up my new car on Saturday. So overall, as unfortunate this incident was, both the broker (Brightside) and insurance company (Covea) have been pretty fair and apart from having to wait in call queues for up to 15 minutes sometimes, the entire process has worked pretty well. |

Felt I had to comment..
Just took my 6 in for its first service and saw the dealer had a new pre registered 6 msport with 10 miles on the clock and a list price of £74k for £39k!! (Coopers BMW Norwich) You can see why so little damage can write off these cars. Gap insurance is a must if you have these cars on finance for the sake of a few hundred quid.

I am tempted to buy a new 6 series because of 0% APR, List Price 73K but available for 51k.
Main attraction 0% APR. ? Worth buying |

if my sums are right lets work on a c£23k residual on a pcp over 48mts, figures could be
List £51k Dep £6k Financed £45k Residual £23k So £45-23 = £22k = c£450 p/month, thats not too bad |

The residual after 8000 miles per annum over 48 months are £18,292.00. So it would be 45-18 = £27k = £562/month

I picked up my new car on Saturday and here it is
Drives nicely and am enjoying the Driver Assist Plus and HUD especially. However, I am not so keen on the chintzy matt aluminium trim around the side windows. My 2012 car was blacked out which looked so much better. Has anyone tried blacking out this chrome on their car? How did you do it? It's missing the BMW floor mats, spare key and a service booklet. I ordered some proper mats from BMW (the most expensive floor mats I ever bought) and learned a replacement spare key will cost a whopping £278. I am trying to track down the spare key but the Previous Owner is a lease company which means I won't be able to get in touch with the previous driver directly. I also learned that service booklets are no longer issued with these cars as it's now all held electronically. But without knowing which BMW dealer last serviced it, I would not be able to get it filled in even if I had one. BMW in Warrington can't tell me where it was last serviced Does anyone in the UK have an alternative, less costly spare key solution? Last edited by Mark333032; 01-15-2018 at 10:25 AM.. |
