Time for a new exhaust

Hey all, I searched the forum but couldn't really find what I was looking for.

I'd like to do something about the exhaust on my 650i. I know the easiest route would be to zip tie my exhaust flaps open and straight pipe the resonator. Alternatively, I could get Magnaflow mufflers and leave the resonator.

Any recommendation from anyone here? I had a Magnaflow on my 328i and loved it. What inlet/outlet size would I need for the 650i sport muffler? How hard would it be to incorporate the stock tip with an aftermarket muffler?

And finally, what's the opening width of an M6 diffuser in case I go with quad tips?

Thanks

It all depends on what you are looking for. It would also be helpful to know if your 650 is an M sport or not. If it's M sport then you do have a sport exhaust and it actually sounds very good with just the flaps zip tied open. But "very good" is subjective of course. I had my M sport zip tied open and the sound was nearly perfect for my tastes-didn't want anything too loud. Then I upgraded to a carbon fiber M6 style diffuser so I wanted to go quad tips. For this reason, I found some M6 mufflers on the forum. I zip tied those and now the sound is absolutely perfect for me. A slight drone between 1500-2000 rpm, but a quick switch into sport mode increases the revs and gets it out of the drone zone.

Magnaflow doesn't make a complete system for our car, so I'm not sure how just the mufflers will sound. Some aftermarket produce some drone. I believe (don't quote me) the 650 pipes are 2.75".

With the M6 diffuser or aftermarket comparables, you should be able fit up to quad 4" tips.

It seems like the exhaust may be 2.5" inch, but I'll see if others chime in. Sadly the Magnaflow mufflers with the built -in dual tips are 2.25" inlet. I can attest to how good a Magnaflow sounds on a 328i inline 6 with secondary cats deleted, logic would tell me that it should sound even better on a V8.

I'll do the zip-tie method first and see how that sounds before making any big changes though.

The difference in .25" should not be a problem. As many others have done, I put M6 mufflers on my 650. The M6 mufflers are .25" larger at the inlet than the stock 650 pipes. The muffler shop can use an adaptor to fit the larger (or smaller in the case of the Magnaflow) so that it fits. What i'm not sure of is if going down to the smaller diameter will cause a reduction in performance

I think for now I'm just going to zip tie and do a resonator delete. Now come's the decision, straight pipe or x-pipe?

I wanna put M6 mufflers on my 650, I just wanna hear the sound. Is there any way that you can send me a video of your car?
