It most likely has something to do with China's ridiculous demands on companies doing FDI business in China. I believe in the car business, the incoming company (BMW in this case) must be a Joint Venture with China's government (up to 70% of your equity, gone). Something like that will really put a dent in your margins... thus this outrageous price.

That's one pricey car...usually in Asia the prices of cars are double of that here in the US due to tax etc.
When I went to college, lots of overseas kids were buying sick cars bc their families think they're buying a corolla but didn't know 55k bought really nice cars here haha They got money to burn over there, but the poor over there are extremely poor, kinda sad if you think about it

That is an expensive price tag for an M6. It is still a nice car and will remain my favorite BMW. I bet they are selling pretty well over there even at that price.

Understand several things about China.
Middle class is limited. You are either a regular poor/low middle class person or you are in the mega rich category chinese love limited edition and auspicious things. A Chinese new year, year of the horse in limited edition fits the bill. I can assure you anyone wealthy born in the horse or its companion year will be on a waiting list for this car and the prosperity it will bring as noted above vehicle tax in asian, especially china is HUGE. |

Check out the prices of M6s in Singapore. A convertible will set you back a $500,000, and that's not even a special edition.
