How to make my car go faster.

Hello everybody,

I am really new to mod the engine, and don't know what need to be done to make my 2012 650i xdrive go faster. My goal is to get the car go 0-60 around 4s.

You will need about 500 HP to get there. Non of the option to do that are cheap. What is your budget like?

Don't listen to these guys. It sounds like you have the N63 engine. The cheapest way to get under 4 seconds in your Xi is a JB4 Stage 2 Beta tune, which costs $799.

http://www.burgertuning.com/N63_JB4_upgrades.html

You can also do a flash tune, which costs a little more but nowhere near the cost of upgrading to an M6.

I like AWD, that is the only reason why I don't get the M6.

Thank you so much. So the only thing I need is this JB4. Do I need any other mods?

A downpipe will help you put even more power down, but just the tune will significantly improve performance. I had it on my N63 550i, but you should see an even bigger gain to 60 as you have AWD.

It depends on your car. Early models need A. I believe 2011 need the A and 2012 and above need version B. mike@x-ph.com should be able tell you exactly which one. I think they even sell them.

Thank you AmooManiak

OP go with a JB stage 1 and if you decide to get more mods in the future (Downpipes, Meth injection, Upgraded turbos) get the JB4 stage 2.

2012 models should be Harness B. You can also send me pictures of the harness and i can confirm which one you need.

Your other option is Dinan stage 2 tune, I have the same year and car. Tune brought me to 490HP and 579ft/lb torque. Made huge difference for 1/2 hour work by BMW dealer for around $4K. It is awesome, very happy with it. No splicing wires, no drivetrain errors, just power, better gas mileage, more sports car feel.

Is there any risk to "tuning" an engine, is it likely to have problems any quicker than a stock engine?

Generally not a problem if the tune is done right. If the tune I not done right or too aggressive BMW has many safeguards built in and will detect issues that would cause harm (detonation) and cut power, retard timing and trigger a codes (e.g drivetrain malfunction). The beauty of a proper tune on a turbo engine is the car drives exactly the same prior to tune until you get on the fun pedal.
