Step by Step guide for launch control

I've had my car for almost a year now and have never launched. Can anyone post a clear and easy guide on how to do it? Also, are there any bad effects of launching that I should know about?

I second this request. Seems to work sometimes but not consistently.

This is what I have...

1. Motor has to be at optimal temp.
2. Drivelogic in S3.
3. Press slightly on brake.
4. Push gear lever forward and hold until launch control is indicated.
5. Push throttle revs to 3000. This can be adjusted with the CC speed adjustment.
6. Release the gear lever.

Does the gear level release launch you? Or when you take your foot off the brake? Do you have to set traction control to off or MDM? Does it perform traction control during the launch or just burn out?

On the topic of fun/bad ideas, I've never tried, but if you disable traction control, stomp on the brakes, and hit the gas, will the M6 burn out nicely without moving?

Also looks like even though in S3 (manual shift mode), you do not have to shift...the car will shift for you if you maintain full throttle. Can someone confirm this? This is what it appears like in the video, as he never shifts. I want to be nice to my 1st gear rev limiter. lol.

You have my confirmation if it helps
Also LC will be active for 20 second as long as you keep flooring gas

I remember first hearing about launch control when I read about a M3 having it. It sounded really cool, but the mags also said it was so hard on the car that BMW would only let you do it 10 times before voiding the warranty. There was some counter built into the system to detect this. Back then I was driving powerful but more sedate BMW models (a 760 and more recently a B7) so I really did not give LC or the warranty issue much more thought. Now that I have a M6 I am curious about it.

How hard is it on the car?

Does it really affect the warranty if used?

If it does, can you put it into the mode then not launch without adding to your 'launch count'?

Is CC in step 5 the cruise control speed adjustment?

Are there any other things one might want to know about using this? Other than be careful I guess.

Happened by the dealer yesterday and asked my service rep about LC - the 10 times void warranty thingy. He looked at me like I had asked how to make them fly. As far as he knew he was waiting to enable it on mine. In a few miles I get to see what it's all about.

No wonder no one responded to this.

The 3.9 in the Ignition video Rsfootball posted is good enough for me. Anyone know if it was done with DSC or MDM off and the D3 setting? What's the best way to do it without using launch control?

DSC OFF, S3, Spoert+ Engine, Comfort suspension.
Don't floor it and just modulate it

Thanks. Is this the way you have one of your M buttons set?

Funny, except for DSC OFF that's the way I am driving mine around normally. Another 500 miles or so and I can give it a try.

I am interested in seeing if its effective. Most cars I have driven with launch control if you are an experienced driver you do better than the LC.

No. None of my M buttons are set to DSC OFF. They are both MDM.
Driving this car in DSC OFF is extremely dangerous and put people life in risk. I don't do it on public roads/streets.
I drive the car in DSC ON when it's rainy and MDM when the road is dry. Sport+ throttle and sport suspension/steering is my favorite while I am switching between D3 and S3...

Okay, I just went to my car and tried this sequence. I successfully got into launch control mode. After a few trial and error attempts though, I discovered the following:
1) you do not need to put the shifter into manual mode
2) you do not need to put the engine into Sport or Sport+ mode…
launch control does these things for you! So the sequence (at least on my '15 M6GC) is the following:
1) DSC off
2) soft brake pressure
3) gear shifter forward
Vehicle then goes into manual, sport+ mode. You can then take your foot off the brake and hammer down the pedal. It stays in launch mode until you let off the shifter. What I don't know is if you're suppose keep forward on the shifter when you launch. Anyone know?? I did not launch it because I was in the garage and would've ended up in our guest bedroom.

Look like the program for LC is changed. In my 2013, even the manual says selecting S3. Also it doesn't matter if you select sport or sport+ or even efficient in "Launch Control" while you need to floor the gas. Those settings are throttle response setting which is not subject to LC.
To answer your question; You need to release the shift lever and keep flooring the gas... Car will not go anyway if you do not release the shifter and will disengage the LC if you release the gas pedal...

There really should be just a button to do all this.

To be honest with you I prefer the way it is to a button to do all these... Automobile industry is going to the point that Cars are going to drive by themselves (even on track !!!???) and there will be nothing left for us to enjoy the driving.
Have you seen this:
