Exclamation BMW M6 F13 Convertible 2013 - DME and Injector issue

Hi all

I have a 2013 BMW M6 I bought 6 months ago which broke down with a "Drivetrain Malfunction" and extremely rough engine idle then complete cutout.

RAC took it on a flatbed to Stephen James BMW Bromley who diagnosed it as a faulty Injector on cylinder 2 which then flooded the fuel DME (ECU) and both now need to be replaced with a full cleanup of all the rest of the injectors.

Quote so far.. assuming no other damage was done £3,200.. Of course the WarrantyWise have denied the claim saying there was previous work to the fuel system which caused the malfunction.

Any advice? I know BMW Specialists are far cheaper but nervous about taking an M6 to an unknown..

Appreciate any input.

An injector flooded the DME? not sure if I understand this correctly but if I am:

1- Cylinder 2 is far away from the DME.
2- Fuel is a bad conductor for electricity therefore it will never cause a short circuit. The possibility of your car catch fire due to getting in contact with the DME(power) or engine high temps is higher than causing a short circuit to the DME.

Also it would leak in the cylinder not outside unless the rail leaking and if the rail is leaking you would lose pressure in 4 injectors.

I think should take a 2nd opinion.

Find a good indy shop and have them perform another assessment as there could be hidden engine damage.

In the States BMW extended the injector warranty to 10years/100k miles. If you plan to let the dealer perform the work, press them on the warranty for the injector work. They likely won't cover any other work as part of the process but every little bit helps.

Thank you very much for your input, what you say makes sense re the petrol damaging the DME.

Also thanks for the advice on the injector warranty I will speak with them.

Please if you are in the UK and know of a good Indy in the London/SE area let me know.

Problem is my car is not drivr able so I need to get it out on a flatbed and taken to a specialist, once I find one

BMW are telling me the DME is faulty and the total quote for all the work is 6.5 hours.

How much are they charging? is it both DMEs or only one side?

Proposed solution: Get used DME (same model & part number), Remove the original from the car (30mins job) clone the original into it and your problem is solved with less than £600.

Was your car smoking?? I recently sold my car to a friend with DP and DME tune. I never had problems with it but he says he got the same problem. The changed the injectors and i cant remember if it was the left it right cylinder. He paid $2000 to fix it
