In the market for a m6GC, are the 2015 changes worth it over 2014 models?

So my 2016 m4 was totaled a week ago and I just found out....I was deciding between getting an RS7 and a m6GC but pretty much am all out for a m6GC in the next couple of months. I was curious if the 2015 changes (i can't easily find what those all are) are worth the cost increase over a 2014 model....thanks

In the '15 you get the iDrive ID4 with the new touch pad with the big iDrive knob, instead of the small knob. You get a software update on the '15 for the DCT and the steering. I can find out more for you.

Siciliano611 Also, if we're talking about the CPkg, then I believe there was a steering wheel recalibration/update.

AND (this drives me nuts)

The display for the UI Screen has the alum trim around it in the 15s (hate); 16's made it more black edged and sleeker.

interesting...I was not aware of DCT and steering updates made on the 2015.

I'm only aware of the updated idrive system. As others mentioned you get new software, and a touch knob.

ZCP carried over from 2014 that is revised steering, suspension, MDM, and 15 HP bump.

I concur on the alum trim on the screen bezel. It reflects like crazy, that and the trim on the B&O speakers. I am about to do a black wrap on the idrive bezel soon.

On the '14 people were complaining because the steering felt lose and no feedback. They updated the software to make it more precise, a little harder feel and more feedback. They did that in all series and models.

2014 and 2015 have the same NBT idrive system, the only difference is the touch controller.

2016-LCI changes which included new screen

2017-NBT Evo Idrive 5.0/6.0 with Carplay

again this is news to me. I'm aware of something like this for the F30 and F15 cars. Do you have a link for this? My understanding is that the M cars did not change other than the official published changes made on the comp package.

thanks for the clarification. I always get confused on the NBT changes.

So 2015 has the touch ECU and knob to enable touch functions, but the screen resolution, screen size and all the menus are exactly the same as 2014?

That's correct, what's crazy is that BMW offered the touch controller in 2014 M5s and not M6s...

What's apparent is that for NBT, BMW is constantly just rolling out significant changes every year.

2014 was year one of NBT, then 2015 just gets touch interface, then 2016 gets a larger screen, then 2017, they completely redo the UI...

From the CIC and CCC experiences, for the most part (UI, features), the system didn't change between 2009-2013 and 2007-2009 respectively.

What's odd to me is, that the development for NBT is very hardware heavy. You'd think they can make more money offering the same initial hardware (idrive ECU, Screen, controller) and then like a phone OS just update it every year and charge people for the update.

1. UI wasn't changed until 2017 with the introduction of NBT EVO hardware. 14-16 have the same UI.

2. Screen size has never changed. CIC, NBT or NBT EVO use the same 10.2 inch screen.

NBT Evo requires more RAM to run properly. There's 2 NBT Evo hardware versions. One that has 2 gb and the newer one that has 4gb.

Certain cars like 2016 F3X have NBT Evo hardware with regular NBT UI but if they want to upgrade to ID5/ID6 they will need NBT EVo unit with 4 gb of ram.

So what's the 2016 new screen changes mean? Just better resolution? Did UI change in 2016?

The screen is an OLED screen with better resolution.
I can tell you first hand it is night and day compared to the old screen.
I'm not sure on th UI change.

That's correct, night and day difference. UI didn't change.

I'm doing the 2017 NBT Evo retrofit in my 14 GC and i had the option to use existing screen or upgrade to 2016 screen. 2016 screen is a sharper, brighter and modern.

Nelson,

Any chance of pulling together group buy pricing for the LCI OLED screen?
