Extended - ABSOLUTELY. Never own an M with no warranty. I got an extended from the BMW dealer and so far already used it on stupid repairs.
Love BMW but reliability is questionable at times. |

You won't be able to get a factory extension, must be done before factory warranty expires.

If you want the BMW extended warranty, you must buy it before the base warranty expires (either by time or mileage). I recently bought the extended warranty on my fully-loaded 2014 M6 vert, and here's quotes/info from about 6 months ago (not sure if they've increased prices or not).
Suggest you contact your dealer first... if you have a good SA, give him the VIN# and he can pull a "Warranty Vehicle Inquiry" report from BMW. This will confirm that your car is eligible and also show the wholesale prices from BMW on all the various levels of coverage (I have a relationship with a great SA and he gave me a copy of my report even though they're not supposed to hand it over). As you probably know, there are three levels of BMW coverage - PowertrainPlus, Gold and Platinum (see attached brochure for coverage). Also, they have a variety of different mileage/time extensions for each level, as noted below. Here's the full list of quotes and coverages which were available for my 2014: Powertrain at 60 months/70k miles - $2,416 Gold at same - $3,626 Platinum at same - $4,082 Powertrain at 60 months/100k miles - $2,690 Gold at same - $4,080 Platinum at same - $4,590 Powertrain at 72 months/70k miles - 2,870 Gold at same - $4,383 Platinum at same - $4,952 Powertrain at 72 months/100k miles - $3,210 Gold at same - $4,950 Platinum at same - $5,590 Powertrain at 84 months/70k miles - $3,270 Gold at same - $5,050 Platinum at same - $5,720 Powertrain at 84 months/100k - $3,960 Gold at same - $6,200 Platinum at same - $7,030 I purchased my extended service contract/warranty from Century BMW in Spartanburg, South Carolina where I've purchased cars from (not far from the ///M performance center They do a straight markup of $250 over the wholesale costs from BMW noted above, which seems fair IMO. Maybe another dealer would do it at cost with a great relationship but you can buy it from any dealership anywhere (completely online/email). Just be sure you ask about sales tax - SC didn't charge me any tax or other fees besides the nominal markup. I believe I've seen a post that a BMW dealership in Maryland also gives great deals without any sales tax as well, so shop around. Last edited by gregmb; 10-20-2017 at 01:20 PM.. |

Keep in mine some dealers will discount and some states do not charge sales tax on service contracts. I bought my 72/70k platinum in Maryland (versus Florida where I live) and saved $570.00
Does anyone know if you can further extend the extended warranty before it expires?

Factory extended warranty carries over to the next buyer right? I don't want to get something that won't pass over to the next potential owner

It used to be transferable, but the warranty program keeps changing so I would confirm in writing if still transferable today. It is also subject to early cancellation for a pro rated refund (assuming you haven't used it yet).

Im talking to a SA from a non-bmw dealership about a CPO BMW M6 they are selling, that has the CPO Elite Extension (75k Miles until December 2018) He called BMW NA to confirm and found out that it does not transfer because the car is not being bought from an BMW dealership, but says theres a way to transfer it with a signed document from the previous owner which he did some work and got. The document is the limited warranty transfer application.
http://cpo.bmwusa.com/Content/docs/B...pplication.pdf My question is will this work? is this a loophole we can use to continue CPO warranty even if bought from a non BMW dealership? |

This is true, but trying to figure if the signed warranty transfer document from the previous M6 owner will work if I still buy it from a non-bmw dealership. Maybe theres a loophole there where BMW NA will overlook. Its a longshot I really doubt this.

extended warranty
Hi. New member here with a 2006 M6 coupe in Indianapolis Red (A31) with SMG automatic, 67,000 KM (41,650 miles) for which I traded in my 2007 Z4 six weeks ago. When I bought it, I found that one could only get extended warranty here in Canada for cars up to ten years old. I was seriously considering getting such coverage due to the reputation of this particular power train and the outrageous charges made by BMW service departments. (example = CAD 448.00 plus 13%tax to replace leaking windshield washer pump which I will do myself for under 20.00 parts thanks to watching a youtube video showing how easy it is, and buying parts on ebay ) Repairs to a clutch, transmission, or engine cannot be done in the driveway, so if you can get insurance coverage at any price, I say you should do it.
