25.2 MPG this week on a 652 mile trip
Not that I bought the car with gas mileage in mind, but I took a road trip this week from L.A. to Yosemite and back.
Average speed up was 75.6mph and computer said 24.1 mpg. There was about 100 miles of mountain driving, plus Cajon pass and heavy rain for about 40 miles. On the way home we averaged 74.6 mph, with many stretches of 85+mph and the computer read 25.1 mpg. Based on fill-up on departure, and total fuel used calculated a total of 25.2 mph.

I too have noticed the fuel economy is a huge upgrade from last-gen. The V10 in the previous car was so thirsty and the fuel tank so small I found myself visiting the pump every other day. Being that this car is less thirsty but also holds a lot more fuel, I can now spend more time driving than performing annoying refills. I've also noticed the range marked on the car when filled up is around 400 miles to empty, whereas on the V10 it used to be more like 250.

On a couple of 200+ mile trips I've seen 30mpg (Imperial gallons, not US) at an average speed of 70mph. It soon goes down a lot if you get stuck in slow moving traffic though. Overall it's a slight improvement on the E39 M5, maybe as much as 10% on average.

I have no problem getting the car into both single figures in stop start driving and go high 20's on a 70-80mph cruise. I reckon it's marginally better than the e39 M5 at its best, but it's worst is worse. It's in another league (like 30%+ better) to the previous V10 M6.
30mpg is an impressive result Richard...you must have been driving like nun! And PackerFan, 'rain' in California?? Surely not! |

One of my favourite places....we're going to LA for a 1 weeks break in the August As theres four of us going, I've splashed out on renting an Escalade. It'll probably be shit, but I may as well drive something authentic whilst I'm there! |
