Took my brand new 8 day old 640 GC to work today...

It was great driving in. But then when I was ready to leave... The parking valet could not find the key. After 30minutes they started searching other cars for my key. They already agreed to pay for a replacement if they can't find it tomorrow. Until today they didn't have any issues in the past 12 months. Kind a wish they lost the keys to my Mini countryman instead :-/ c'est la vie I guess.

Oh man sorry to hear! Be sure to keep an eye on the 6. Worst case scenario is someone finds your vehicle then theft

Agree, it looks to me very suspicious, in my country thieves have extra money for brand new cars with original key, it happened to me about 14 years ago and it was a very painful experience, mine had about 300 miles in the odometer. I'm very sorry but I feel it is my responsibility to share my own experience.

I'm thinking positive thoughts Did BMW take out the ability to lock out certain keys from starting the engine with the newer models? I know back in the e46 days you could do this.

I went back the following day and drove it back home. The garage will pay for all replacement cost as well as my transportation cost (for going home and returning next day). They will also throw in a month of free parking. IMO they are doing all the right things to make me feel comfortable and not have to fight them tooth and nail.

Have your dealer delete the lost key from the car so it can never be used again.

I really dont understand why in the US you guys have things like Valet parking.
The only person I ever let drive my cars here are the dealer techs for service and even then I monitor them on satellite and GSM tracking via a phone app or via a desktop PC.

Once watched and filmed the valet parkers outside my Disneyworld hotel parking restaurant customers cars and was appalled. If anyone ever treated my car so badly I would put them in hospital.

I don't have a choice. Many parking structures in SF are valet, this allows them to pack in more cars. Where I park, it's attached to the building where I work and they actually take very good care of my cars. They always park my cars with extra room

This was the only incident in the last 14 months that I've had, that and they are doing everything to make me whole again so I'm going to continue to park there
