I am so tempted to go non RFT on an upcoming tyre change. Which brand/model came OEM on your car? I have the Goodyear Excellence, I must say they are miles better than the RFT I previously had on my 2007 335i (had to chuck those immediately), but if there is still improvement to be found I'm keen.

I'm sure the new RFTs are much better than the old ones but there's definitely an improvement with non RFTs. OEM were Continental Sport Contacts RFT.

Excellent to hear about the results with this tyre as the MPSS isn't available in 20" OEM sizes. The UK based Tyre Review channel on You Tube rated these exceptionally well, except for the very limits of their capability, compared to the MPSS, but imo this is irrelevant for the 6er. Noise rating and efficiency rating is excellent too. I'd really liked to have known tyre weights too as normally ditching RFTs improves unsprung weight by up to 3kg per corner in my experience.

I was considering the MPS4S, but £1k fitted is a little sharp. But now the Conti Sport Contact 6 is available which is a significant improvement over the old 5, fitted for around £850. Also comes with Rim Protection which is handy on such a barge of a car.

I will never ever use oponeo as their customer service is utterly appalling in the event you need it. Black Circles have always been excellent for me, to date.

Have you find any solution with vibration issues as mine 640d with ps4s has the same problems, light vibration which i don't know where its caused from...

any help would be much appreciated...

mine was not related to the PS4S, it was just a balancing issue but it took a while to get it balanced properly, once I did the vibration issues were gone

I just picked up my new (to me) wifes 650iX convertible yesterday. It was registered a year ago and has some 10k km on the clock. It comes on 19" run flat tires and after 100 km I knew that the change to Michelin PS4s would be the first thing to be done when I come home. After I finishes the 700km trip home from the dealer yesterday evening I am absolutely sure.

I had both a 5 series and a 7 series on RFT and that in combination with the electrohydraulic steering is the worst that was ever done to a BMW. I still do not have the slightest idea why any BMW driver or engineer would allow RFT to be mounted on cars.

Then two years ago I got my M5 F10 with Michelin PSS and this car has a superb suspension, steering and tires. Just got the new PS4s and they are absolutely on par with the old PSS.

So changing any RFT tire to a Michelin PS4s is a no-brainer.

Tell that to the engineers at GM. The run flats that come on all models of the C7 Corvette including the ZO6 have Michelin Ultra High Performance Run Flats and their performance is outstanding. Just because BMW uses an inferior performance run flat does not indicate that the technology is not advanced.

I installed there 2 months ago when the arrived in Hong Kong.
here is my review on them compare to my old PSS
1. road noise is better
2. the grip is better on cornering.
3. the side wall is 1000 time harder and better which I think is the best upgrade design.(but still soft compare to other brand)
4. it cost cheaper than the PSS

What sizes are you guys fitting (19") for the PS4S? I'm looking for 4 now but can't find the sizes I have now in RFTs. (245/40/19 and 275/35/19)

I can find the rears, but not the fronts in those sizes.

Looks like a 235/40/19 would be 1.2% difference in speed, so probably a close enough match.

Another question for you clever chaps.....
Is it important that when switching to non run flats that you do all 4 corners? I can understand the need for both fronts or both rears, but uncertain about having to change the fronts when I change my rears.

Probably wise, but not essential in all situations imo. I had a similar discussion today at a tyre garage. I have a screw in 1 rear RFT but when they removed the tyre, they could see the RFT had started to crease on the inner walls, so wouldn't repair it. One of them advised they should only replace with a RFT, as the axel should match (2x RFT) but when I said no thanks, as I'll be swapping them all soon so put on a cheaper temporary non-RFT while I sorted 4 premium tyres, the other stated all 4 should match. He started to tell me they'd be responsible if something happened if they fitted a non-RFT on the one wheel.

Long story short, they had zero tyres in my size in the garage so I drove away with my original RFT with screw still in it while I sort 4 new MPS4S.

To that I say BS. If there was a real regulation or law, then yes. But otherwise what could they be held responsible for? For me, while it may well be the optimum set up to have all 4 tyres either RFT or non-RFT, and while it may be best to have them match on an axel, it is not a formal requirement, so the fact a tyre garage tries to push it, it's probably more to them about selling more tyres.

I am not saying you should mix RFT and non-RFT, but imo I would be happy to do so on a runabout, city car, etc. without a care in the world. If it's a sports car or one that's driven hard when the occasion arises, then I'd say spend the money where it's needed and have the optimum tyre setup.

This is true for the millions of cars driving around on £40 no-name budget crap tyres and haven't had their pressures checked since 2009. Not optimal, but millions are doing it.

after 10 months of use an update.
I have done about 13000 km on them and have about 50% tread.
The noise is still ok
The grip is very good
The side wall is little bit soft from used but still ok.
over all the PS4s is so much better than PSS

I have a 650 GC switched to MPS4 few weeks ago what tire pressure setting did you guys end up with? I went with 34psi initially then increased to door label recommended setting which is 41 psi the later was better IMHO. I'm just curious if anyone managed to find a better setting to improve ride quality cause mine feels a bit stiff in low speeds now

Picked up the car tonight now on Pilot Sport 4 S's and while I only drove the normal commute home in traffic, the ride is noticeably smoother. Sport feels more like comfort, far less bumpy on drain covers etc. I had a quick spirited drive and some roundabouts, and it definitely doesn't want to break traction or understeer like the RFTs did. Looking forward to trying them out more and readjusting how much I push the car, as where I'd normally expect it to slip it just kept gripping!

Front 36psi
Rear 38psi
I like the feeling of a stiff handing, feel more solid on the road
the bmw setting feels way too light and feels like driving a Toyota not good for me.
