How can I tell if my car has a tune?
I finally pulled the trigger and bought a 2013 M6 with 13k miles and an Akrapovic exhaust. The car is great and a huge improvement over my F10 550i 6mt.
The car is Sakhir Orange, full leather, B&O and in great shape. I visited the dealer and the car is due for a software update. Since the previous owner added an Akra exhaust, I'm curious if there is a way to tell if the car is tuned and if I should allow the dealer to do the software update. Thanks and if I should ask in the M5 board let me know. |

There are many tune experts in M5post that you can ask them but if you feel your car has huge improvement over 550i I would say of course she does... She has over 150 more power and over 50 more torque plus a lot less turbo lag beside the Dual Clutch transmission instead of torque converter... Yeah it's HUGE

"Ask dealer to tell you when they scan car. If it does have it tell them you bought it like that. That way you can't be blamed lol" I would not recommend that, as it will be possible to use that against you if you have a warranty claim involving the engine.
I would track down the former owner. I found mine by a combination of looking at the nav use (they left their home address as the last trip). Then a little google and voila. Ask nicely. Or go to a good independent that tunes bmws locally and have them test. Or get a dyno run and see if you are higher than stock.

I have the name of the former owner from the title but I didn't want to bother him unless I ran out of options. A dyno might be a good idea but semi meaningless unless another known car runs at the same time so we can factor in all of the potential variances.
Anyone within 2 hours of DC planning a dyno run in the next month? |
