Brakes!

Hey guys!
I have a 2015 640i xDrive GC with 19,000 kms and my car is telling me that I'll be needing new brakes in 8000 more kms. I am very surprised with that but I'll do it Since I have no other option.

Now since I do have to change, I want to change into something better. I was given a few options from one of my friends who has a workshop specific for German cars:

1. Keep the same calipers and get SLOTTED rotors and new pads.

2. Get Brembo brake kit or

3. StopTech brake kit.

Now, my question:
1. Is it better to get slotted rotors or cross drilled? (His suggestion was slotted)

2. Brembo vs StopTech.. Which is better in terms of durability? I heard that if I buy Brembo once, I can switch cars and all I'll need to do is get new brackets so basically I can keep my Brembos for much longer than just a car.

I have time to decide but I'd like to hear everyone's opinions.. I'm sure most of you are a lot more knowledgeable than I am..

IMO the stock brakes are fine. You don't need to spend the extra money on a big brake kit. I would just stick with the OEM pads and rotors or go for Akebono pads and different rotors. But OEM is perfect for the 640 GC.

Thanks for the suggestion..
Not even go for the Slotted rotors? They're not too expensive honestly..

Well if you plan on running the OEM pads, the slotted rotors will wear them down faster. So you have to pair them up with aftermarket pads. Unless the slotted rotors are just for looks, then the extra money isn't worth it, IMO.

If you really do want to go aftermarket, I recommend Adams rotors, they are pretty good, and will give you great braking upgrade.

Thanks! That clarifies a lot!
I think I'll just stick to my OEM settings for now

have you checked the pads visually? 27000km seem verrry premature for brake pad change unless you've been doing 150-0-150-0 repeatedly. on my last two bmws, i went in for brake pad change when it was triggered by the idrive only to be told that I had plenty of pad material left. they just rest the idrive count down and sent me on my way.

I visually checked and there was more then 5mm of pad material left (more like 9mm)

I haven't checked me out visually. Good point!

I put slotted drilled rotors to almost any cars I own ( some are waiting for the stock to wear out). They give more sporty looks but not performance. I don't notice any gains at all.

Greetings from your fellow 6er who crashed @ ~50mph totaling the car.... If your thinking of better brakes, I would highly encourage you to do so if you can swing it... Not sure if it was the brakes on the 640i or the RFT but I just slid like Ice into the car infront..... I was not impressed

Different driving conditions. Brakes are pretty good, stock RFT's are OKAY, but that also depends on your tires, and how worn they are.

Probably this^ I also felt tires needed replacing, had them checked day before, told fine for another 3,000 miles, drove 400 next day then impact.
