Trying to decide....paint stock rims black or leave them?

I've had black wheels on my cars for 6-7 years now. I'm trying to decide whether I should paint the OEM ones or leave them the OEM hyper-silver color. My M6 is black....

If it were white, it would be an easy decision to paint them because of the black accents on the M6 already (roof, etc.).

I just don't want it to be "too much" with all the black. This is why I didn't go with the black grilles or other black stuff. Maybe I'm just getting older and thinking black wheels is just a trend. That being said, I know BMW offers black wheels as a no-cost option on the M6.

I know this is totally a personal preference thing for everyone. Thoughts?

I am getting mine painted next week. I went back and forth as well, but decided I wanted to stay with oem 20's due to strength and light weight, but I also need a more aggressive look (hence the gloss black finish). I would only leave the OEM finish if you plan on purchasing a custom set of aftermarket forged wheels. I am staying away from 21s this time due bends and stress of constantly avoiding every bump in the road. I bent my previous wheels twice last year with potholes. Not fun!

LOL, yeah, I will NOT miss worrying about every bump bending a rim. Matter of fact, the last one I bent was in Indy back in June....on I-465 (in other words, no way to avoid it). OEM wheels are staying on regardless...

Hmmm.... On a black M6 I would probably leave them the silver color. I have a black M6 as well and thought about painting the OEMs black (I swap out the 21s for OEMs at times) but I think it would be too much black and there would be no contrast at all between the wheels and body.

I mean all in all it's a personal preference so do what makes you happy. But sounds like you are looking for opinions so thought I would chime in since I have a black M6 as well.

I also restled with this issue. In the end the OEM pewter colored 20" wheels look very good and black on a black is a little too black. That being said, I am still considering black powder coating my winter package wheels. The OEM winter wheels are 19" and silver, perhaps a bit light. Pittsburgh has a lot of "wintery mix" and crud on the roads which show up on the silver.

Yep, decided to keep them as they are....like you said, the black/black is a little too black. It's been awhile since I've had a black car, too, and keeping that clean is going to be enough of a job besides having to worry about black wheels, too. I think it's all about contrast and the black looks great on any other color M6....but black is a classic color and you need the silver to get that similar contrast.
