Looking for price check/advice on potential 2012 M6 Vert purchase

"Short" version bolded at bottom.

My wife's lease is up July on her 2013 M3, and never before have I been this back and forth on what to get her! The cars I have considered are the new 2016/17 M4 vert Comp Package, "New" 2015 C63 507 Coupe, and also used M6 Vert (with some kind of good warranty).

When the M4 came out a few years back I decided to go with the older V8 due to the fact of not being sold on the changes; most specifically the exhaust sound. I decided that I would wait for the CP to come out, but now that it is out I am still not sure, so I decided to wait again for at least another year for the face-lift. I am beginning to wonder if the car is not for me at all. The car is literally perfect for us, and I think is one of the best looking cars out there, but I am a big sound guy and it sadly fails in that category.

The C63 507 is hard to find in the spec I want, and with the new coupe about to hit dealer lots and quite a few unsold 2015's on dealer lots prices are everywhere, and unfortunately I have been unable to find a dealer that is far sighted enough to give me the price that myself, and from what I have been told on the forums, feel is the right price for a two year old car.

That leads me to the M6 vert. I have considered getting one for years, I had a 2008 V10 coupe that I loved, but for one reason or another never pulled the trigger on the F12/13 M6. This would have been my DD, so I probably would have gone with the newer 600 HP CP, but since I have got the more sporty 911 now I thought I might go for the vert for the wife. There is no reason to take on the massive depreciation of anything newer since we will probably only keep it about a year and 25-30k miles (it will be a road trip car also), so I am looking at 2012-13 cars. I will say that they do seem to be holding their value a bit better than the E63/64 prices I remember from years back. From what I have read they have been much more reliable so this may be a contributing factor. My 2008 M6 had many of the problems outlined in the forums including SMG pump at 35k miles (left stranded) and clutch at 48k miles (one month after warranty ended +left stranded). The car broke down several other times leaving us stranded or limping home including on two road trips, so needless to say I am a bit cautious considering a first model year car!

Here is the TLDR! I have found a 2012 that is EXACTLY my dream spec on the car which as you guys know is hard to find on the M6 used market. Furthermore it is very close by to my house - everything else I have seen over the past 6+ months of looking has been 400-800+ miles away. We have had to travel an average of about 16 hours round trip for our last three cars (I am used to having to travel as there are not many german sports cars for sale around me) so not having to travel is another big plus. The car has 25k miles which is about as high as I would want to go, and the price (not including 6% tax) is $67k. This will include three months of BMW 4/50000 followed by 4 year 75k mile exclusionary warranty. We would most likely drive the car 1-2 years for total of roughly 20k miles per year. So finally for my questions:

1. Is $67k too much to pay for a 2012 model even when taking into account perfect spec, local sale, and warranty? This is their best and final price FYI.

2. I have seen threads in the past that have said this generation is much more reliable than the previous, but based on the most current knowledge would it be a bad decision to purchase a 2012 with 25k miles as a DD for my wife? She will not be happy if it breaks down every 3k miles like the old M6, but based on what I have read I do not think it will statistically speaking.

3. Any other thoughts or input that owners/experts could offer would also be appreciated. I have gone back and forth on cars for the last few months and feel like I am out of the loop on the M6. I was drawn away from it thinking it may be too much car for the wife, but I know that this will be the car that will be the most fun for us. It's hard to beat top down in one of the beasts!

Thanks for any advice you guys can offer!

67k is far too high for a 2012 imho. I just paid 61k for a 2013 with 32k miles loaded.

Who is issuing the 4 year 75k mile exclusionary warranty?

BMW quoted me the following:

BMW platinum 6/70000 $5302 exp 10/12/2018
6/100000 $5940
7/70000 $6070 exp 10/12/2021
7/100000 $7380

I really appreciate your input. I agree that it is not the very best price out there, especially for a 2012, but please take into consideration that it does have 7k less miles and will also have 3 months of factory warranty remaining followed by five years (I misspoke in my previous post) and 50,000 mile warranty (to 75k miles).

The problem I am having is that it is so damn hard to find something even remotely close to me! The closest M6 to us that is within our price range is 250 miles away, and it is black which is a color I do not want. There are plenty of great deals out there, but they are all over 1000 miles. Also, due to my last M6 experience, there is no way I would own this car out of warranty. Pay the extra few thousand up front to have a warranty, or buy a car still under factory warranty, or else you run the risk of one repair costing you more than it would to have bought the car brand new!

After reading your post I have expanded my search a bit, and I did find one that is a better deal and a bit newer, but it is blue with the SO interior which is a very bold choice. Will call on it later, but not sure if I want that bright of an interior on a blue car.

Also, with regards to the warranty, this would be a warranty provided by carmax. I just added in the cost of the warranty to the sale price, which is $2339 for 5 years/75k miles. For another $800 they will extended the warranty to 100k miles. This is a great price for the warranty, but carmax cars are priced higher from the start, so you have to take that into consideration. The prices that you posted above look very similar to the prices I was quoted years ago on my 2008 M6 when I was warranty shopping before the factory warranty ended. As you can imagine it is not easy to write a check for $5k for an additional two years coverage. I did not end up getting the warranty, and while I did have several other issues arrive over the next 10 months I kept the car, none of them would have been covered under the warranty, so I was glad I went without it.

As an update; I am going to hold off on the 2012 from Carmax. As said above it is already overpriced, and to add to that the salesman gave me a nauseating rant of bs which I had to call him out on, and since have lost interest in.

I called BMW of Birmingham to ask about the 2014 M6 I mentioned above, and while they were extremely courteous and helpful, the car had already been sold.

I called a few other dealers even further away, and their cars were also sold, so as of now I am out of options less than 600+ miles away on autotrader, cars.com, and bmw website.

We are right now trying to find a white or blue one - I like the blue the most, and the wife likes the white the most. We are in talks with a dealer about a 2013 White vert with about 20k miles on it and CPO. Should know no later than tomorrow if it will work out. The only thing I don't like about this one is that it has the dark wood trim rather than Carbon Fiber which I think is wrong for an M car.

Really appreciate your help! I will be sure to update if we close a deal!
