650i or M6 for full bolt ons and tune ?

Hello guys im Damian from Atlanta GA. So i want another 600whp daily (like my GTR was last year). Im currently diriving a CLS550 biturbo and a Gallardo but since i almost never drive the Gallardo i will trde both car for just one nice quick daily. Im in between another GTR or an M6!!! Now my question for the N63 and S63 tunning experts would be this: since im aiming for 600whp/600tq I would obviously need downpipes, exhaust, higher flow drop ins or intakes and a badass tune. Now if i get a 650i instead and add the same aftermarket parts would i still make enough power to touch that 600whp mark? Yes I know the S63 has a better flowing exhaust manifold and higher lifting exhaust camshafts but would the higher compression rate in the N63 make up for that and produce the same power? Im looking at two cars, one is a M6 in the color combo i want for 65k and the other is a 650i with the M package for 40k (both same millage). So considering i would do full bolt ons and tune on either car will they make the same power or how close would it be? Will the DCT transmission in the M6 and the extra goodies be worth the extra 25k?

I'll wait for some feedback before i make a decision. Thanks guys

I own an E63 M6 so I will chime in on the general theory of ///M vs. standard BMW.

As you know, the extra power is not the only part of the equation. The real advantage is in all of the other bits and bobs on the car.

Before I purchased my M6, I drove a 650i which was an amazing car. Nearly 400hp and all of the handling one can use on public roads. A fantastic car. Shortly thereafter I drove an M6. I knew immediately that in 4 turns an M6 can leave a 650i like it was tied to a tree. Brakes, Suspension, and the Diff. OMG the Diff.

I will leave you with this: The whole is worth more than the sum of it's parts. This is especially true with ///M vehicles.

Please keep us posted on your decision!

Cheers-mk

P.S. Welcome to the forums!!

The DCT and extra goodies are worth it 110%.

I have had 2 M6 Cabs now (2007 and 2016) , and have had a non AMG S class and two S63 AMGs .... the M cars and the AMG cars are a night a day difference from the non-performance variety .... even with after market mods they are not even close to being the same animal.

Test drive both and see which you prefer.

Good luck!

I think i found the M i want. White and red interior coupe. Drove one and loved the transmission so i have to go for it. However the stock power is not nearly enough, car feels detuned just like a stock GTR feels. That being said i will install downpipes, exhaust, intakes and tune on it. My question is how much boost can the stock injectors and fuel pump hold? Will the turbos max out before the injectors?

Check out alpha tunings package, includes most everything you want. They say 700+ (maybe 750+, I forgot) hp with no other mods required. When I'm off warranty, that's probably where I'm headed...

I used to have F13 650 and now F13 M6. Let me tell you something... the difference between them is night and day. In fact they just share the same body and interior that's it. MDCT has superiority to crappy ZF8. In fact MDCT is one of the best and fastest transmission out there. Active M Differential is another master piece of engineering. Suspension, steering and brakes are different too. Handling is much better. If I want to compare the rides, I would say M6 in all comfort modes is still stiffer than 650 in sport+ mode! As far as engine and power, the big difference between N63 and S63 is the size of turbo chargers; so with a simple cheap tune you can get 600+ whp/wtq from M6... go for M6

Ok - have to ask... What is Active M differential?

The Active M Differential is a Limited Slip Differential with electrical control to engage or disengage the differential's clutches. The DC motor is prompted by ECU based on all data gathered by sensors which is reported to activate the DSC even if the DSC is completely off. It interprets those data to provide the optimum locking force to each wheel all before a wheel breaks free.

In addition to using DSC, the Active M Differential can adapt based on pedal position, rotational speed of the wheels and yaw rate. All this happens extremely fast and precisely. This differential is able to shift power to the outside wheel in a tight turn as well as counteract the loss of traction during high speed lane changes. It can even decrease the tendency to understeer during full load cornering.

To check the functionality of Active M Differential you can turn off DSC and go to the turns and see how this system controls the stability of your car.

In order to make it more clear, here you can see the mechanical functionality of LSD and those clutches:

Thanks for your comparison M6-coupe thats exactly what i was looking for, someone that owned both vehicles. I already ordered my M6 and letting ancient and outdated gallardo go!

hjs1971 i have also looking into the Alpha Packahes which make around 620rwhp but seems a bit pricey at 12k before install. I will look into other options if not i will end up going eith the ams alpha tune.

I just need a very sticky rear tire now 💪🏼😜

I have a 2014 550xi with the TU motor and it's a beast of an engine. I had Catless downpipes, Meistershaft exhuast, custom filters and a custom tune.
Car had roughly 550whp and 600wtr to the wheels.
My 1/4 times (I hold world record for the 550,650,750) was 11.5 at 120mph. My 0-60 on vbox was 3.4 all day! The car was an animal. 0-100 very powerful and drivable in comfort. Also it's all usable power.

M6- just picked it up a few days ago and yea.. Completely different animal. It's just saw raw and untamed. It will kill you! Lol overall two different cars. If you prefer with raw power with No fucks to give them M6 is the car. If you like a tad more luxury over power then 650 is the car. But only the one with TU motor.
