Traded my R8 V10 for '14 M6 Coupe

My first M-car! Options include Competition, Driver's, and Executive packages, along with the Bang & Olufsen system.

I can't say it's a better car than my R8 was, but it's a different and welcome experience. This is my first luxury car and I'm enjoying it so far (I just hope I don't get bored with it too quickly). I love the wheels that come with the competition pack (I know some here don't like them), but I'll probably still end up getting an aftermarket set at some point.

Nice car! I like the black with the comp package exhaust tips and wheels. I too looked at the R8, what were your impressions of that car?

congratulations!
In my opinion you should to replace 601M wheels for 343M wheels BLACK ( They offer 343M with two options: bi-color or black )

I really enjoyed the R8! Right after I purchased it I got hired for a position in Germany and I took the R8 with me.
Getting to take it on the autobahn everyday really allowed me to experience what the car was made for. I never had a single issue with the car other than some annoying brake noise at low temperatures. I really appreciate how stiff the R8's chassis is, it feels at though the car was forged from one big block of aluminum.

After I left Germany and returned to the States, I struggled to really enjoy the R8. Short on-ramp acceleration bursts just don't cut it anymore
when you become accustomed to sustained triple-digit speeds while traveling between cities. Even taking an early morning cruise out in the country with little traffic and twisty roads felt like it's just a matter of time before a cop coming the opposite direction catches me flying around a corner. I can't even get motivated to play the cat & mouse games with radar detectors and laser jammers... just seems so lame to me at this point.

Oh well, not sure I didn't myself any favors switching to an M6 as it's still serious overkill for the street! LOL At least it's more comfortable and the electronics aren't outdated like the R8's.

I've seen a few pics of those and they do look great. I'll probably end up going with something from ADV.1 or HRE. I just really like a lot of the styles that are offered (can't say I like the prices though).

I was really unsure of the wheels and deliberated a lot before deciding to go for the Competition Pack 601's.

Now I've taken delivery of my M6 CP I'm glad I did because, in real life, they really suit it. Seeing your photo's confirm my thoughts and think it makes a nice difference to the regular M5/6 wheels (even though they're not forged like the regular 20's, which is outrageous!)

I agree that's it's insane they're not forged, that said I find them to be one of the best OEM wheels I've seen. I've already got a lot of compliments on them!

Congrats on the car.

I know the meaning of lack of enjoyment that hits an owner of an //M car in this country. This country doesn't comprehend the meaning of "enjoy driving". HWYs are full of people that can't tell...well you know what I'm about to say.

I cringe every time I drive my M3 on the so called FWY. Speed is limited to 70, and even when I'm able to drive faster, there is some moron with his/her Prius driving on the 1st lane at 65 as if they own the lane.

Well enjoy your car.

Very nice car. Not sure I could go from an R8 V10 to the M6 but like you said it is cool to have a different experience.

I laughed when I read this. You are soo right! I drive the Vegas - LA trip often, that would be a great place for an additional 2 lanes for "Minimum speeds", no maximum.... but some Prius owner would think it's an HOV lane and get themselves run off the road and f it up for everyone. When I had my Z06, I made a couple trips of 220 miles in less than 2 hours, it was my goal, but it seems CA has tripled the number of patrols in the past few years, I don't risk it anymore.

I haven't really had a chance to really take the M6 out to play, so I made sure to wake up early this morning and went to my goto road I used in the R8. The M6 really surprised me... it was nothing short of amazing when really punching it on country back roads. It didn't feel heavy and change of direction was easy and confidence inspiring. I left traction control on and but it didn't spoil the fun all that much. The torque this thing puts down coming out of corners is just sickening. It handles mid-corner bumps better than the R8.

Snapped a few pics to show some of the corners.

I was just cruising with one hand when I took the pics, but a"fun" speed to take these corners is about 70 mph... it's still well under the limits for the car/tires but fast enough to feel some g-forces.

Beautiful machine and I hope it gives you lots of motoring pleasure! Considering a sports exhaust upgrade?

Drove the 2014 M6 at a BMW UK event recently and it really surprised me with its fantastically linear power delivery and lovely V8 rumble, even managed a Maserati-like woofle and brap on the downshift and afterburn that i enjoyed immensely. so this M6 is indeed very special about as much as the current M3 i drove immediately after underwhelmed me.

Enjoy it. Drive safely, sir.

Thanks. Yes, I'm considering an aftermarket exhaust... but I want to wait a while. I had Akrapovic on my R8 and I loved it, I'm a sucker for the carbon tips.

Congrats! How does M6 compare to R8 (v8 or v10) in terms of power and handling?

I can't really compare them, the design goals of R8 & M6 are too different. The R8 does what it was designed to do better than the M6 and vice versa. The R8 is faster and handles better than the M6, but considering the R8 is a small, mid-engine, purpose-built sports car it would be a complete failure if it didn't out perform a luxury GT car like the M6.

If I was looking to upgrade the driving experience I got from the R8 I would have moved to the MP4-12C (I love that car!!). But I've decided to try something different with a luxury GT car that I'm more comfortable in.
