Trunk lid lift supports with Non OEM replacements

I recently replaced my trunk lids supports with non OEMs and it made very little difference. Still slams shut. Is that just how it is, 2014 650i Convert Xdrive, or should i buy OEMs and will i get a softer close?
Thanks

That's how they are. Weird, huh? Not the most impressive design for a $100,000+ car.

Thank you and that is odd. My wife had a 2022 435i and the trunk works the way you would expect. Opens automatically when the button is pushed, and you have to push to close it. Guess they eventually figured it out...
thanks again

But is hers a convertible? Convertibles have totally different hinge systems. But yeah, it could be disigned to work differently.

Yep, Convertible. Works completely different than the 650 though. It actually has a third shock thingy in the trunk. Small little shock, maybe 6 inches. Guess that gives the trunk lid the extra oomph.
