6 Series Gran Coup lacks rear air suspension?

I wonder why BMW didn't put the rear air suspension on the Gran Coupe....

The 6-Series is intended to be a driver's car. Not a comfort cruiser. If you want that, get a 7-Series.

Porsche Panamera is a driver's SPORT car. And it has air suspensions......

Air suspension does not equate to comfort cruiser. Just that BMW chose to set it up like one.....

I don't think anyone buys a 6er expecting an M3/911 rival. They may be cross shopped, but I doubt many people truly think they are direct competitors.

The 6er is a compromise car. It's heavy and no one really tries to deny it, and that is because all of us who bought one care more about the proportions of this car, tech toys, and leather covered everything than we do about beating a 911 around Laguna Seca. It therefore follows that creature comforts (including ride comfort) should be strongly considered in the planning of this car. Why they didn't? I assume because it's cheaper and they can justify this omission by saying it's unbefitting of the Ultimate Driving Machine.

Just my thoughts.

I imagine the lack of rear air suspension has something to do with the geometry of the suspension and the tail weight of the car at the rear. There doesn't seem to be anything conclusive online to explain why some cars have it and some don't. The 550i GT has the rear air suspension as does the 7 (now standard on 750/750LI) but the 550i sedan, 6 series and many others lack the air setup. My X5M has the air susp. which helps when towing I guess.
