Sunroof not opening

Hey guys just bought a 2015
6 series x drive gran coupe . Beautiful ride just realized the sunroof isn't opening . If I press the middle button the sunroof goes up and down but when I press it back it doesn't actually open. Any idea what they problem could be ?

I'm not sure but I'll take a gander : it's because it doesn't open.
The 6 sunroof only has a tilt function, no slide. Sliding the button back / front operates the sunshade.

Don't feel bad, I had to google it when I first got the car to check how it should operate. :|

Yeah doesn't open because of the size and curve of the roof. There isn't anywhere for the glass to go.

I think we can all relate here.... I too, when I first drove a 6 series, thought hmmm why doesn’t the roof open like a traditional sunroof.... I googled it thinking the car I first drove had an inoperable slide but alas nope , as stated the curve is too much for the glass to slide back. It’s a large titling only glass roof. Though Merc have managed an opening unit in their coupes by taking it over the roof rather than under it as have Porsche ..... I’m still wondering....surely BMW boffins could have figured out something......
Enjoy your 6!

Pretty sure that the 8GC does exactly that. It’s got a power trunk, too. The fact that we have manual trunk lids really chaps my hide...

I’d be happy if the trunk would just pop open when you hit the trunk button like my E60 M5 did. It sucks when you’ve got your hands full.

My f13's trunk does pop up when I hit the button. If it's raining it's kind of slow but it still gets up there.

Just wait until this summer when you get one of those 90° F summer days. The heat build up will cause those gas struts to pop that baby right open.

Can someone share a picture of the closed state of the sunroof for an F13 GC? Is it flush with the rest of the roof once it is closed?

You can look at pics of cars for sale on eBay and see it's flush.

I have an 08’ 650i and mine only tilts open too. Major bummer.

There’s no sunshade in mine either. Anyone know if I can buy one and have it installed?

I'm not familiar with the e63 6 series...but looking at the diagram of the sunroof for that model...what is #3 & #4? The part nbr index below the diagram lists these as "suspended headliner" and they come in multiple colors:

EDIT: just did a google search using the 11 digit part nbr for Himmelgrau e63 suspended headliner...the pics below is what I found:

Guessing that’s the part I’m missing, the thing in-between the glass moonroof and the cabin, that keeps the sunlight out. My car doesn’t seem to have one, which is odd, or at the least it doesn’t work 🤷🏻‍♂️
