M6 Missed 1200 Mi Service ADVICE?

Guys and Gals,

I am considering purchasing a '14 M6 but I have learned that the 1200mi service didn't happen until 8K miles. The OEM warranty/maint is still active until the end of the year and I plan on adding an extended warranty from USAA after that. The car has 30K miles on it now without any issues showing on the BMW service history. The only service shown is routine. Would you proceed or walk away?

My concern is if the car consumes oil or has a major hiccup that BMW NA will come in and throw their hands in the air blaming the 1200mi miss.

I have spoken to my service advisor at BMW San Diego and he and his boss both agree that since the warranty is active, there is no reason to worry.

Thoughts?

I don't recommend buying this car since the 1200 service is very important.
Basically they change the differential / engine oil but as far as I know the type of differential oil they put after 1200 mile is different from the one car is coming with. Having said that without this oil change, the differential will be on stress so if you buy this car, there is possibility for differential failure in near future when the car is out of warranty and it costs you +5K

Thanks! I plan on having a warranty on the car no matter what. It has gone 30K miles with no issues up to this point but more worried about denied warranty coverage than an actual failure.

I got differential failure at 30k...
everything is possible but if you can get extended warranty for next 3-4 years, it will be fine.... keep in mind the service of these cars is so costly

I would have to agree with the service advisor at BMW. BMW or USAA are not going to deny you a warranty because the car missed a 1200mile service.

Good luck and enjoy!

8k over seems over the top to me, what does that tell you about the previous carful or careless owner, in the UK that car would not be sold as an approved car with a BMW warranty, personally id would walk away, why take the risk and live with the doubt, there are plenty or cars around so id be picky is i were you.

I agree, I'd walk away too. I think I've read here, maybe elsewhere that bmw didn't certify a car that missed the 1200 mile service. Also, like the above poster, what does that say about the owner of the car that missed a free 1200 mile service? Leads me to think he's quite careless about his car. Lots of Ms out there to buy, choose the right one.

Thanks guys. That is the problem...there aren't a lot of 6MTs out there and since the next generation cars will all be auto (sounds like they won't even offer DCT) I want to grab one now. I think I have resolved to pass on the car. Thx.

MT is fun to drive but not on a heavy torque monster like M6...
Having said that I enjoy MT on my M4 as much as I enjoyed DCT on my M6...
MT and DCT would be discontinued soon but I don't think it happens on the next generation M2/3/4/5/6

I owned 2 F10 M5 with MT and 1 with DCT and I simply can't stand DCT. Might as well be an automatic. It is fast and amazing in many ways, but I simple never felt connected to the car. I wish I loved it because it would make buying / lease swapping cars so much easier. The next M5/M6 will only be in auto so I want to buy a 6MT car now to hold on to for a while.

I have to say I agree. As great as DCT is, it's not stick and I miss that connection. There is nothing like driving stick. If I could change one thing, it would be that. I still absolutely love this car, I'd just love it a little more in stick.

To each his own but if I want to get another M6 or M5 , I will go with DCT and if I want to get another M2/M3/M4 I will go with MT...
That scary feeling when you floor the gas pedal of M6, will be there just because of DCT and gear ratios plus the high speed up/down shift...
Ofcourse its just my opinion

that's too bad you passed on this car. I'm on the search for a 6MT as well. As of today, there's not a single 6MT GC for sale in the entire US. A few months ago, there were 4 to choose from. So these things come and go. Try to coupe this with a few other option combos, and likely the car you're looking for is the only one ever built in the country...

That is correct that BMW will not further add CPO or extended warranty on a car that passed the break-in service by a lot of mileage. That's a risk I'm willing to take though, as I likely would not buy BMW warranty anyways.

2016 BMW M6 GC  [10.00]
My M6GC is a 2016 and has a manual. I love it. I ordered it figuring this would be the last manual available in the M6 (and it was only available for North America in this generation, anyhow), and that appears to be confirmed from reports. There's just too much power for RWD to put down. M5/M6/M8 will be AWD with no manual after the present model is done (and it looks like production has stopped, or will soon, on M6 models). So maybe this dinosaur will be worth money some day. All these soon-to-be-outmoded features: internal combustion engine, manual transmission, "CD" player, pneumatic tires....

My concern was not just with BMWs warranty. I had planned on extending with USAA as well and their terms also stated something about them not covered damage resulting from missed service. If the motor failed, I just assume they would lean on that clause once they determined it missed a major service.

There are still a couple for sale across the country, but not great options / colors or overpriced. I will wait patiently for another one to show up that works for me. It was hard to pass on it...I had even bought an exhaust for it that I am now trying to sell...

What warranty are you thinking about purchasing.

Umm...is this a Singapore Gray, Black Extended interior M6 Coupe 2014 with Competition package currently in the Los Angeles area? Cause I believe I am the guilty previous owner of this car who did not do the 1200 mile service until 8000 miles. If so, let me know, and I'll tell you everything there is to know about that car
