Question New to BMW and the Forums - Newbie Question

Hello all. First off I have to say that i'm pretty happy to be roaming these forums. There seem to be a lot of knowledgeable people on here, not to mention some pretty bad ass rides.

Anyhow, I recently just purchased an 07' (E63) 650i automatic in silver with only 44k miles on it. I got it from a friend and it is in extraordinary shape as he only used it on weekends and special occassions.

I'm completely new to BMW but not to modding. I had an 03' 350Z Track edition to which I added upwards of $10k in NA mods. To give you an idea I had: NISMO cold air intake, plenum mods, coated headers, high flow cats, exhaust, suspension, slotted rotors, wheels etc. I made a fun car even funner.

So my question is: How 'moddable' is the 650i especially in automatic? I know the 650i is more of a touring car and i'm wondering how effective mods are to the vehicle in general? The 350Z was highly adaptive to modding and you could really tell the difference as you modified it. Is it worth the extra cost to mod and are the gains significant on the 650i? Or should I just save my money and cruise right along to another type of car down the line? Thanks for reading.

Welcome! I had a 09 650i convertible and loved it. They are easily modable but very pricey. I had it for a year and done ACS springs, Hamann lip, and Dinnan chip. Good luck and enjoy it. The pics were when I first bought it without the mods.

Hello CleanGC. Thanks for the reply. That's a nice looking car you have there. Did you modify the air flow system at all before the Dinan chip? If not, was there a significant gain by just modding the chip?

I was planing on doing the complete exhaust system, then decided to switch cars. IMO I saw a very noticeable difference with the chip upgrade especially the throttle response and acceleration. It was a great mod for the money. Hope that helps!
