Upgrade CIC to latest NBT...possible? Affordable

Upgrade CIC to latest NBT...possible? Affordable?

I have a 2013 (early in model year...April I believe) 650i xdrive convertible. Less than 10k miles on it so would love to upgrade some of the electronics. Still under CPO warranty. Question I would love some guidance on...

1 - is it possible to make the upgrade?
2 - I assume it would mean both hardware and software changes?
3 - would this screw up other systems in the car?
4 - third party or dealer? I would not be comfortable as a DIY.
5 - thoughts on cost?

I have to believe there are others out there that love the car but hate the old CIC and Connected Drive and have done this.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Contact bimmerretrofit they quoted me the best price for CIC to Idrive 5/6 (which is NBT Evo hardware I believe)

You lose telematics functions (BMW Assist/SOS) will be disabled along with xm radio.

Lost functionality

Thanks Nelson. In your experience what, if any, functionality is lost?

What about NBT to NBT Evo? Can I keep the screen and just replace the computer? Not interested in the touchscreen...

Does anyone know. Can you change the NBT Screen from that anti glare (Matt finish) to the NBT EVO Screen (glass like finish), without changing our any other hardware?
Cheers.

It's possible with some modifications. BTW the NBT EVO retrofit for the 6 series does not support touchscreen.

Depends on if you're coming from CIC or NBT.

You will lose SirusXm radio(there's a fix for this), BMW Assist And Online services.

Thanks. What would be needed in order to complete this? Is it just a power converter for the screen? Any harnesses? Do you guys sell retrofits without the screen?

I personally never understood that logic. A new 2017 6 series starts about 80K USD. If you have a 2012 to lets say 2015 that already paid off or owe little it's gonna cost a lot more than 3-4k to upgrade to a 2017 model. This is not for everyone, the first question i ask when someone ask me about this retrofit is how long are they planning to keep their car. You can only justify this upgrade/investment if you're planning to keep your car for at least 3 years, if you're not i wouldn't bother.

I also think that it's cool that we have options of getting these newer idrive systems without having to purchase a new vehicle. Audi and Benz does not have these retrofit options, you pretty much stuck with outdated Info entertainment system.

The other day i retrofitted in a local customer NBT EVO in a 04 E60 that had the 1st GEN CCC idrive. Car is worth 5-7k and he did not hesitate to do this although he had funds to buy a new vehicle if he wanted to but car was in pristine condition, i believe it only had 78k miles.

Here's an 08 E60 M5 retrofit that i did a year ago and now the customer wants to do retrofit NBT EVO

Harnesses, converter and other parts. Right now we don't but we might soon. I've been getting a lot of request from guys like you that want to keep their exiting screen but the issue is that we can only source full kits.

Great, will keep an eye out. This would be really beneficial for someone who doesn't want to strip a lot of the interior for the install.
