I have to say the 6er has one of the nicest interiors around. Can't wait to get it next month at PCD. |

The M6 has a DCT. This is a dual (wet) clutch synchromesh “manual” 7-speed transmission that is electro-hydraulically controlled. The is no clutch pedal nor conventional shifter. You can shift "manually" via the paddles or let the computer do the thinking (auto mode). |

Similarly, V8 models have slightly stiffer front springs to compensate for the heavier engine, although you are correct that all models (640s, 650s and the M-Sports), except the M6, have the same suspension tune (give or take DDC, which is standard in the US.) |

There is a lot more to it
As pointed out, if you need AWD, then you are kind of "stuck" with the 650xi. In that case, say Chicago winter, the 650 will always be faster than the M6 because it can get the power down in the daily yuck of the roads here. If HP is that important, there are lots of places that will help you out - but honestly, once again, in the bad weather, it won't help you go faster
Now as for the sunroof - this honestly is the single reason to me that I will not go with the M6GC. It is not about it it opening, it is about it opening up the interior. Sit in a M6GC and then get in a 650GC with the sunroof shade open - wow, two very different cars - I was in shock how much different they were - TO ME. Now there are plenty of people that don't want/care for this (hint, hint LSM) and that doesn't mean they are wrong, just have different tastes. Side note... I went from a 2006 550i to a 2008 M5. Loved having the M5, but missed the 550 every day. In that case, it was about torque. Side side note.. I'd go with a S6 but that DCT is not getting love on the forums and even C&D said the RS7 was possibly better since it used an automatic transmission. So personally, give me a 650GC xi with stick dammit

I'm with you on the sunroof opening the interior.
I honestly don't care too much either way for it to heavily sway my decision. That being said, the inside with the sunroof open does feel a lot roomier than with it closed. Closed, the car feels sportier and more focused. Open, it feels lighter and roomier. For a GT car (6er coupe/GC), the ability to go between focused sports car and luxo cruiser is nice. The M6 coupe and GC are supposed to be the track thrashing monsters, so it makes sense that they use the CFRP to lower the center of gravity while also creating a more focused interior environment.

I don't track my car but definitely prefer driving a car that is tight and handles better...I had a gran coupe and would hardly call it a focused sports car with sunroof open or not. I guess I have a different perspective but, BMW's used to be way more sporty. I dont think the 640/650 are very sporty. Loose steering to me, I dunno......I can appreciate the differences in wanting/not caring about a sunroof. I have owned a lot of Porsche's and always wished it didnt have a sunroof. I never opened it and always rattled...But hey glad there are different choices for different ppl

My m6 GC is first car without sunroof I have owned in 25 years. I always seemed to keep it and the cover closed due to noises. Maybe used it 5 times/ year. Don't miss it at all, and frankly love the CF roof.... A real differentiator out there.

So while I fully agree that the GC should not be called a focused sports car, I disagree that the steering is loose, at least not on the one I drove. Not perfect mind you (something about this 5-series based chassis), but way better than the 550xi/535xi. and yes "BMW's used to be way more sporty". Kind of sad.

Somehow I find this question a bit pointless in my opinion. My wife drives a 640i GC and as fine a car as it is, it does not hold a candle to the M6 or any M for that matter. Forget the extra HP, that's besides the point. The driving dynamics in the Ms are what it is all about, if you can't appreciate that then the M6 is just not for you (my wife included). The CF roof holds a practical purpose, it's not just there to look at (and I have to say on the F13 it's the best looking roof I've seen on a GT). The adaptive suspension, steering, throttle response have all been meticulously designed and optimized for each style of driving. And the M-DCT is the perfect pair for the S63TU. How can anyone prefer an 8 speed (torque converter) automatic to an automated dual clutch for sports driving? Enough of the aggressiveness was lost in phasing out the SMG III anyways, and yet with the smoothness of the M-DCT the M6 is finally every bit as good for daily driving as the non-M cars. For as much "spice" as M cars have lost over the years they are still the finest cars BMW produces. Every time I get a loaner it spends it's time garaged. There is just no going back. OP, if you simply want to get from point A to point B in a fine German automobile then get the 650i, you'll love it, but if you're looking to DRIVE, to really be immersed in an experience and be in control, then you know where to look. I'm sure by now you know exactly what you're looking for in a car and why.
