Newbie To The Forum

Hello, I'm a newbie to the forum having taken delivery of a new BMW 640d M Sport Gran Coupe on 28/10/16.

Previously drove an E92 M3 which I'm missing terribly but the F06 is fabulous in different ways.

Used to be a member on BMWland before its demise and enjoyed the posts on there and the support others provided.

I'd appreciate any pointers or advice and look forward to reading the posts on this forum.

Welcome aboard
Any pictures of the new beast? I know I'd be missing the sound of the v8 but not much else compared to the Six.

Have you got any plans to get any coding done etc?

Welcome to the forum. My first BMW was a 2008 E92 330d and whilst it was no match for an M3, from the very first moment I drove it, I understood the whole front engine/rear drive/BMW chassis thing. I loved the car and I'll never understand why I traded it in for a new F10 535d in 2010. The instantly noticible difference was the steering as a result of BMW going all electric and I was never really happy with the car. I'm now on my second 640i convertible and although it has the same electric steering, the response is slightly sharpened with the addition of Adaptive Drive. Still not as good as the E92 but in every other respect an amazing car.
If you have any technical queries I'd recommend you post questions here: http://f10.5post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=330 Yes, it's a 5 series forum but both cars share the same basic chassis and drivetrain. There's a lot of UK based guys over there who know what they're talking about.

Thanks for the welcome! The only pics I've got to date were taken at the $tealers when I collected the car and they aren't the best. I hope to take some better ones if we ever get any bright weather!

Managed to get Apple CarPlay working last night despite being told by the 'Product Geniuses' it was a factory fit option and couldn't be sorted as I hadn't included it on the spec (it wasn't an option you could order at the time I ordered the car).

I have the adaptive drive but haven't driven enough yet to make a judgement on the difference it makes. We are off up to The Lakes for Christmas so looking forward to the drive, and getting winter wheels/tyres fitted this coming weekend which will make SWMBO happy :-)

Emailed DMS and got a decent price but still wobbly over warranty, insurance, etc so still in two minds. Seen a couple of posts on here about remaps etc, and noticed that DMS were one of the companies mentioned.

I'd be grateful if you could let me know how you got the Apple CarPlay working - thanks.

Jon D . . . I've replied to your separate post re: Apple Carplay. Your car must be build week 27 or more recent otherwise you are goosed! Good luck!

With the winter wheels. A bit gangster-like?

I'm fitting my winter tyres this week. Best thing I did with my previous F12 was to change the 20" RFTs to 18" non-runflat Dunlop Wintersport tyres. Quite apart from the dramatically increased grip, they transformed the ride and steering feel.
I had no hesitation in ordering my new 640i with 18" wheels plus Adaptive Drive and I'm extremely happy with it. Looks just the same as my 2011 F12 but drives like an entirely different car.
