Forward Alert issues
I just made an appointment for service but thought I would ask to see if anyone else has had issues with their forward alert.
Usually when I get close to a car in front of me, a drawing of a red car pops up on the HUD to tell me I am getting too close. Lately the system has gotten much more sensitive and has been hitting the brake on it's own when completely not necessary. It's supposed to hit the break if it really believes I am going to hit the car ahead of me, but it seems like the car has lost faith in me now and is getting into emergency mode much earlier than what it used to. I tried cleaning the camera, but it is still happening. Anyone else have this issue? |

Haven't been able to figure the system out myself. At times the warning light (red car) pops up when it should and sometimes when there's no visible threat. Also at times when there is, nothing happens.
It's only hit the brakes once for me in the 5 months I've had it and that was appropriate. |

I have had multiple "fake alerts" with the car popping up on the hud even though there was no reason for it to pop up. But now that it's hitting the break when not necessary it's getting scary. Freaks me the hell out because it's so unexpected.

I know it's not a helpful comment, but that's a "feature" I simply do not want on my car. More precisely, I want it to not be on my car. Ever.

OP - something sounds wrong. BTW, what do you have the sensitivity set to? I've only seen the warning once and never had it hit the brakes.
I used to feel this way - but now I have it on my wife's MDX and my 650. A quick glance at the iDrive could be enough to distract you with really bad consequences. In fact, with all of the distracted driving out there (not saying you or I do this), it will be a good day when all cars have this.

I hate that system. It has scared the ever living daylights out of me twice as I went to apply light brakes (once I was cut off, another time the guy in front of me slammed on the brakes). In both situations paying attention to the road would have more then sufficed. I don't like the "sense of calm" such systems instill in other drivers. . . People change lanes all the time just because the stupid yellow lights on their mirrors aren't on. I was taught to check the mirrors, look over my shoulder, and then maneuver. I was also trained to pay attention to the fucking road.

These systems are here to stay. Moreover, they have found these systems to contribute to safety---beyond expectations. No matter how good you are at driving, you are not as good as these collision systems. |
