Winter tire question

Hi Folks,
I am planning to buy a set of winter tire&rim packages for my 650GC now. I have contact with some local tire dealers, they told me like Canadian BMW motors are different with ones in state. There is no exact TPMS, the one canadians are using are built on the ABS system. Therefore, there is no need of buying a set of TPMS. Is it correct? Anybody can answer the question?
BTW, what winter tires will be best on the 650GC? Staff from tire shops said 245 40 R19 LM60 of Bridgestone is a good choice. I used Michelin X-ice3 and alpine at past time. Neve tried the LM60 of Brdgestone, is it good for in snowy and black iced conditions ?
Thanks a lot.

Nokian

Hey. In Norway buys most Nokian Hakka R 245/45/18. This is a Finnish tire that wins the most contests in Scandinavians.

Hey thanks for reply. I have heard several stories of Nokian winter tires, but it is very difficult to find a tire shop sell Nokian's in Canada.
Have you ever used any Michelin or Bridgestone tires? How is the experience.?

found this site for you. I always buy Nokian Hakka R winter tires. It's the best winter tire for Nordic climate. In second place is Conti Viking Contact 5 from Continental.

Thanks for sharing, Bonz. I have contact with my local tire shop today. They recommend the 245 20 R19 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 tires and the wheels they are selling to me is the OEM m5 replica 19'' in gloss black color.
However, I still have two questions here.
1. I have mentioned to them folks in states put a new set of TPMS in wheel when they switch to their winter setup, but the guy from the tire shop told me Canadian version BMWs doesn't have TPMS in the wheel, it comes with ABS system actually, so there is no need to buy a set of TPMS. Is it true?
2. Have you ever used the tire I mentioned above? I used Michelin Alpine Latitude before, but not happy with it, so I wanna have a good winter experience this year. Please share your experience with me.

I pretty sure all 6ers have TPMS, regardless of point of sale. They certainly all have ABS, but the 6 does not use rotational comparison to monitor tire pressure. If your winter wheels don't have sensors, you will get an error message.

I don't have personal experience with Blizzaks as I have always avoided them. From people I know and what I've read, Blizzaks are excellent in ice and snow but give up more performance for those winter days when the ground is dry. I would rather maintain a bit more dry performance in SE Michigan as they clear the roads quickly. You need to make the call for Toronto. Tirerack is a great source for tire info with tests and user reviews on many brands of tires.

If you have a display that shows the actual pressure of each tyre like this

then you need the sensors.

If you just have a warning displayed when there is a flat tyre then it's using the rotational speed measured by the ABS system and you don't need the sensors.

My 2014 GC (Canadian) does not have TPMS but the FTM that compares rotational speeds. There is no need to buy TPMS tires for a CDN car.

Really? I'm surprised the CDN cars don't have TPMS. There's your answer wzj.

Yes I have coded it but it does not show exact temperature and pressure. It has the option but it does not display it.
One more question, if currently I do not have the TPMS but when I switch winter tires and I put it in will it be useful or not?

They are very quiet, very comfortable, but the soft rubber mixture as traction control light flashes when accelerating if you do not have X-drive. I believe this is the best winter tire for Nordic climate.

Thanks a lot. Bro I have swiched on my winter set up and finally I went with Bridgestone LM-60s. I am pretty happy with it so far and the ride is far more better than my past Michelin's. I used the LM60 with the satin black M5 replicas, the car also looks awesome, it seems like a racing tank.

I just put on Dunlop RF 245/45 R18 96V Dunlop Wintersport M3 tires on BMW Style 281 wheels. This was "special" package from BMW Canada and while I would have preferred 19 inch wheels, I went with this because I had the same package on my 645i and it served me very well. (In fact, my son is still running them on that car!)

Very quiet, and traction with the X drive is awesome!
