Does my 2013 640D have TPMS?
Hi all,
Did all 6 series cars come with TPMS with the sensors in each wheel? Or was it an extra? I think I have the basic system with no sensors as my tire valves are rubber and not metal? Just wondering if it should have them or not. Cheers |

the only cars ive seen that use rubber valve stems with a tmps on screwed on inner is chevy/gm cars. all bmws after around 2005-06 with TPMS should have an aluminum valve stem that can be seen on the wheel. if you have a F series 6, it should have tpms as standard. when you check in idrive, does it show you the car with the psi in every wheel?

As per my 2011 640i, early 'F' model 6 Series did not have TPMS. I think it was introduced after 2012.
Externally it can be identified by an aluminium valve stem with a hex nut at the base and as a previous poster mentioned, you'll get an actual pressure figure for each wheel in bar or psi on the control display. |

My late 2013 640d doesn't have TPMS either. I do not think all cars had them, it was a pre-2014 optional extra.
I am currently looking into retrofitting it - which involves changing the valves on all four wheels, but the difficult part is wiring the control unit (coding is easy). |

Would be interested in hearing with how you get on with retrofitting bmwak As you say, coding & wheel sensors will be easy but not sure how hard the control unit would be to fit or how expensive. Cheers Mark |

Anyone have a picture for what the TMPS receiver looks like on a 6 series? I believe it's in the boot, but don't know if I have one or not. The wheels have normal valves, but I want to fit TPMS valves, so need to check if the other parts are already in place. (2011 640d)
I have the menu on the iDrive, but can't recall if I coded it to be there or not, I think I just coded the tyre temps to be shown with the pressure, but of course none of it 'works' as no sensors in the wheels. Thanks |

I believe all modern cars come with TPMS sensors. Not sure what year it started but it's mandatory now.

I suppose it could have had the option from factory, but when sensors needed replacing they cheaped out and put normal ones on?
The menu option is there, i would've guessed it wouldn't be there unless the option was there...? Wanting to confirm visually before ordering 4 new sensors. Thanks |

Just chipping in here - how often do the valves need to be replaced? I'm assuming they're not replaced every tyre change? Previous owner of mine must have like the hand car wash places in the UK as the valve stem rubber at the point it contacts the rim looks perished to me and the aluminium is corroded heavily.
Had a quick google as one of the wheels has rubber valve stem and was coming up around £50 a valve stem - does this sound about right? |
