New Member & Seeking Advice

Hey everyone, i've been hovering around these forums for a while and only recently decided to sign up, so hello and sorry for the long post

So i live in the UK and was the owner of a 2010 320d m sport till it got stolen 4 weeks ago

Therefore im in the market for a new car and over the past 2 weeks i was doing a lot of research into the 6 series and decided that i will be buying one within the next 3 weeks, because lets be honest...they are pretty damn sexy!

So far from other posts and my research i decided on buying a used 2012/13 F13 640d m sport, the reason for getting used is that i will be buying it outright and as used car prices show, the 6 depreciates like crazy over the first year.

I will be wrapping the car in matt white, then installing the black kidney grills, mirror caps and powder coating the alloys.

The must have options that i am 100% set on are: Adaptive Drive, LED headlights, Reversing camera, 20" alloys.

So my questions are these:

1)Are there any other must have options to look out for when buying the car?

2)Whats is the performance of the car like? e.g pull in 2nd gear, 70-90 acceleration(for motorways)?

3)What do you guys think would be the best wheel colour on a matt white car?

4)How does the car feel driving around town and traffic?

5)Any downsides to the 640d m sport?

6)Any other cool suggestions for what colour/style to get the wrap?

However it is proving an absolute pain to find one with the adaptive drive, LED & reverse camera combo....Guess i just have to wait and hope one comes along sometime soon haha.

Obviously once i get one, i will spam this thread with pictures haha

Nick.

Not sure which model 640 you have in mind but in my opinion the F13 640 is a better looking and better performing model than its predecessor the E60, particularly given that it has a biturbo that gives it 230kw of power, which is better than the E46 M3 and it has torque that is off the charts. But I guess it depends on whether you have that sort of coin to throw around. If you do go that model (late 2010 onwards I believe) then I'd be looking out for options like:

- Adaptive Headlights
- High Beam Assist
- Extended Bluetooth Connectivity
- DAB+ Radio
- HIFI Pro or Harmon Kardon Sound System
- Park Assistant
- Comfort Seats

All the best in your search.

Hey thanks for the info man, the search is still going strong haha
I re-edited my post to specify the model i will be going for.
Yeah i will be looking for 12/13 F13 6 series m sport... they are pretty well priced here for that age.
Ahh good suggestion on the sound system, will need to add it to the search criteria, in regards to the comfort seats... what is different about them compared to the standard seats?
thanks

For the seats, it should be the in executive package. More adjustment, ventilated (with cooling), and it's more ergonomic. The 6 are really great, it looks and drive nice. You get a lot of attention driving around town, especially the Gran Coupe.

If you want practical that also look and drive nice, then you can't go wrong with a 535d mSport. If you have kids or haul around adults in the rear, the 6 isn't great for that purpose.

Ahhh that sounds like another must have option then

Yeahh im not practical, nor do i have kids haha, so i think the 6 will be the perfect choice and the added attention is always a plus

Sorry about your old car, I had my car stolen once along with twelve pairs of my ex girlfriend's shoes in the trunk. Let's say I had much easier time dealing with my insurance.

Anyway, I think I can help with these two questions.

3)What do you guys think would be the best wheel colour on a matt white car?

- For me, I like gloss black wheels with matte white wrap

4)How does the car feel driving around town and traffic?

- It is pretty big around town and in traffic. It is difficult to knife through traffic in that car. I used to drive it in San Francisco, but I have realized that the best car for that crazy town is Mini Cooper. I only drive it when I'm in LA which is the perfect city for it. In LA, I can take freeway/(motorway in UK) to most of my destinations.

Pulls like a motherf*cker. Gobs of low-end torque, probably even more so for the d.

Big. One of the worst features of the car. The faster you drive it, the bigger it feels. It'll feel like the Titanic on British B roads.

Congrats and enjoy whatever you end up with!

Good choice on model and engine. You will not be disappointed. And if you can find one with Comfort Seats then you'll know what I mean. They hug you everywhere particularly around the shoulder area. Once you've driven with them then you will never go back to a standard or sport seat again. And definitely Head Up Display as an option and Professional Navi (10" Screen).

Wow well then i will have those to the must have options
In the UK the 6 comes with the big nav screen as standard which helps i guess

You didn't mention (unless I missed it) which year your actually getting. If it's a new '15 the auto start/stop will remember the last setting when you shut the car off.

If it's prior to that, you can turn it off manually, or code it to have it off at start.

Lots of info on coding and things you can do if your interested. Can help ya out with that if you'd like to go that direction.

Congratulations and post some pictures of the new car!

Or you can ask your dealer to re-program it to remember the last setting!
They do it for free as one time customer satisfaction...
