650i GC - Exhaust note - Cold Start

650i GC - Exhaust note - Cold Start

Update!
I used zip tie and keep flaps on both sides open. It is sounding much better at low speed.

Love that sound!! I wish it always sounded like that...when in sport mode and hard on the throttle you can get some real music from that exhaust but the valves remain close most of the time making it tame!

Wish there was a way to keep the valves open!

Yeap, somebody gotta make a mod for that. I can't hear much in the car while driving until I lower the windows. I wonder how X-Pipe works on this car. I used X-Pipe once in C350 and it was very sweet. It cost roughly $100 including installation and tax. That would be an awesome reasonable mod.

Yeap, I checked the price 2 weeks ago, and I have to look the other way. They have optional wireless remote valve flaps control which is very neat. With EV, it is basically $4000.00 without installation.

Also, it isn't CARB approved, so cannot be used in CA.

Are there any aftermarket exhausts for the 650 that will allow you to keep the original exhaust tips?

I have not come across any which is why I am thinking about X-Pipe mod. X-Pipe should allow for more aggressive note yet retain the OEM look. I didn't get a chance to lift and look at the underside yet, but there should be a spot for X-Pipe.

I found YouTube for F10 550i with X-Pipe and stock mufflers. It sounds pretty good.

I just checked with RealOEM and center muffler, part number 18307646960, seems to be connected to front muffler and rear exhaust system with simple clamps. May be I will visit local exhaust shop to see if they can build something to replace center muffler, so I can put on stock later if I don't like the sound.

I thought the flaps only open at a certain speed or rpm? Did you do anything to open the flaps???

I'm also very confused of people referring to the M exhaust? I have the 650i with the M sport pack and I couldn't see any mention of the M exhaust in the list of things included. Is there in fact an M exhaust?

I googled and realized that some do a mod to keep the flaps open.

Not sure if this is what was done to the car that was posted above from Germany?

I need to figure this out...I want it done right away!!!

yes! for a more agressive sound the open flaps are definitive a must have ;-)

normally the flaps opens at a certain rpm!

its very easy to open the flaps, you can just lock/fix them with a little screw. thats it. tooks 5 minutes!

your can also do a different mod if you cut off the hose wich opens the flaps: http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1183338204

but I dont tested it!

but for a better and more agressive sound, the open flaps are a must have

Did you put a screw through the exhaust pipe to block the flap open? Wouldn't that make a hole in the exhaust?

I tried blocking the rubber pipe but the flaps remained closed!

Do you know what speed or rpm the flaps open? There might be a way to code it to a lower rpm. Knowing the rpm value would make it easier to find though.
