Alloy/tyre/cosmetic repair insurance worth it?

Hi,

I'm in the process of taking out a 640d GC on lease. I know that at some point the dealer will try to upsell their alloy wheel, tyre and cosmetic repair insurance covers

Are these worth getting? And does anyone know what sort of cost to expect?

Are there any other 3rd parties that offer the same?

Insurance is worth it when you need to claim...

They will want to charge anything from £500 to £1000 depending on how gullible they think you are!

I got my dent repair insurance thrown in for free back when I got the new 5 series (3 odd years ago), and I didn't bother with tyre insurance etc...

If the road condition in your area is bad, you should consider it. I broke my wheel once in my 535i, in the end it turns out to be excuse for new sets.

Thanks for the responses. Are there any 3rd parties I could try getting quotes from?

I tried car2cover and they seem pretty economical but they said they can't cover diamond cut alloys - are the "20in Light M Double-spoke 373m" diamond cut?

Forget about alloy cover - they rip you off. Go for a third party or better yet, just get them repaired as and when the wheels get damaged. Some specialists can charge as little as £60 per wheel.

373's are not diamond cut.

I don't buy the insurance. Here in SoCal, I had a scuff fixed on my wife's wheel for $70, same guy that does all the lease return vehicles for the local BMW dealer.
