What to do next?
To stay or go?
My beloved 6 series vert lease is up June 14. Got some choices to make after much consideration, my short list is; keep what I have for another year (expensive option), Maserati Gibli the diesel one, 640d MSport GC, 4 series 435d MSport (very quick) or a new 640d MSport vert with MSport plus pack. The current deals here in uk mean I can get 6 series for a similar lease rental cost to that of a 4.

Can't speak to the Maserati, though I'm sure it's worth a spin. The GC is a different car altogether. If you want a Vert, you want a Vert! Sat in the 4 and after a 6 it felt a bit cheap to me though I didn't have it in the road.
Certainly, I'm biased. LOVE MY DSB VERT! |

I have a Maserati Gran Turismo and the 6 Gran Coupe, they are both great cars but you couldn't find more different grand tourers!
The Gran Coupe is the clear all-rounder, very refined, capable, fantastic road handling and feel and full of stunning technology and looks brilliant (when specified correctly - very sensitive to colour/trim/options). It's the thinking man's indulgence: I always take the long way home! I owned a 6 Vert for 6 months before turning it in for the GranCoupe - couldn't fault the car design, interiors, tech and superb insulation but just seemed to shimmy too much. Wasn't fun and remember thinking the 435d Msport convertible would gave been much better! The Maserati GT is stunning, with an awesome noise, and always gets a fantastic reaction even when you're pottering down to the shops for the papers (my excuse)! Surprisingly benign handling and quite unsettled in corners, this is more passion and soul than sporting refinement. The Ghibli is definitely an improvement mechanically (thank god for that ZF Auto box - my MC robotised manual is fantastic for split second downshifts but not exactly smooth), I am afraid the noise on the Diesel is rattly and awful, you'd need to get the Sport petrol for true Maser cred. If this is your main car, get the GranCoupe. The Maserati is awesome but a bit too much personality for a daily driver!

I test drove a Ghibli. It looks super cheap inside imo. Looks like the parts bin has been shared too much with lesser cars. Looks wise which is subjective just looks like an infiniti to me...BMW has scheduled maintenance included which cant be overlooked. The 6 is much nicer feeling than the 4 as it should be.

I looked at the 4 series vs the 6 series. Chalk and cheese. I ended up buying a 640i. It worked out cheaper compared to a similar specd 4 after the discount being offered on the table. The 4 is just like sitting in a 3 series. At least being in a 6 is not like a 5! I now sound like carol vordaman! good luck with your choice.

I considered the Ghibili, test drove it twice, did a lot of research. Decided against it. Lot of QC issues, throttle lag, high cost but no features. Even bluetooth is optional on the entry rwd model. Look through a ghibli or maserati forum, lot of problems, lot of complaints. Yeah bmw has issues too, but not to that degree.
It has a nice exhaust and the badge. If that's all you're looking in a car, go for it. But idk, thats not enough for me. 6er is sexier too |

Warming to some thing slightly different. I borrowed a Ghibli for a few days totally agree with you, I would buy on looks and exhaust note (actuators). I've never heard a diesel sound like this, gets attention to as it's a Maser! To be honest it's off my list as it's very poor inside, the switch gear, nav, general build quality and all options light years behind Bmw. It has character a little like earlier Jags but still behind them but a good first attempt. Looks like it's the GC for me the discount is amazing £15k off list plus heavily BMW supported contract hire basically an £80k car at half price! A no brainer really the difficult decision is what options and colour to spec!

Bmw has the elecronic exhaust note even in the M6 I think but certainly in the 640 D MSport and does not sound bad inside the car and the Maser I believe is similar to the Ftype which has a gorgeous exhaust roar and crackle this is via the use of exhaust actuators so a real sound!

Hey Rich, I was in the same position a few months back. CG was on my shortlist…..after a few very long extended test drives….M6 Coupe ordered I was sad to see my vert go last week, one of the best cars i have ever owned. Not a single problem in two years of driving.
Enjoy choosing a new car, I had great fun driving a few different cars before deciding on the M6.
