Launch Control
I'm not able to work launch control. My M6 has over 3,000 miles, so that shouldn't be problem. Once the car is warmed up, I stop, turn of the DSC, switch to S-3, and putting light pressure on the brake, hold the gear ever forward. I don't see the flag indicating LC.
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong or in the wrong order. can anyone help? |

1. S3
2. DSC off 3. Shift knob forward and hold 4. Left foot brake 5. Right foot gas (Indicator flag should appear on dash) 6. Go! It is so quirky. I think it helps if your foot is completely off the brake until step 4. It doesn't really matter anyway because in no way does BMW have the "control" part down. The car spins. My M5 did it and so does my M6. Another thing I love about my 991. 1. Sport+ on 2. Left foot gas 3. Right foot brake (Indicator appears on dash) 4. Go! And it is a true launch "control". It grips and goes. I am not sure why BMW makes this so complex. It annoys me to no end in my M6. Makes you not want to use it. If you line up next to someone you almost have to say "wait until I go through all these steps and when it finally works we can go?". |

I believe that BMW doesn't want us to use it often. Maybe too hard on the drivetrain, especially if we were to install stickier drag racing tires.

Thanks for all the suggestions. When I turn my DSC off (button on the console), I get a warning light on the dash, but no prompt for verification. I definitely have the car to temp and have driven the 6 miles. I'll try the order ColdList suggested. I have my foot on the brake before I move the shifter forward. Should that matter?
All else fails, I will check with the dealer and make sure they cleared the software. |

Have you held the DSC button down for a few seconds, to make sure its completely off ?. This is how it should go - DSC completely off, by holding button down, select S3, hold lever forward and you should see the flag, no need to touch brakes if car is level, floor the gas pedal, it will probably sit at 3k rpm, let go of lever. I dont see what the problems are here, its so easy. Program one of your M buttons with the correct settings, then its just two taps of that button, and boom, you are away, it couldnt be easier for all the folks that say its complicated, not intended at the OP. |

Unless it's "activated" when the dealer clears the 1,200 service due message in the car they are not specifically activating anything. The dealer around here a clueless about that kind of stuff.

Simon. Thanks for the tip. Turns out I was just going to MDM mode (not holding down the DSC long enough). The way i figured it out was configuring one of the M buttons as you suggested.
Given the price of the tires, i don't think it will be a daily event though! Thanks all for the help. |

During the first 5,000 km/3,000 miles the launch control should not be used. The 2,000 km/1200 mile pre-delivery check must be performed and reset/confirmed with ISTA (do not reset via the instrument panel service function as the launch control is not released). |

This is how it works for me:
1. DSC OFF 2. S3 3. Left foot break 4. Gear knob forward and hold it 5. Release the left foot break (if I don't release it I will not get the flag in the dashboard) 6. Flag appears in the dashboard 7. Gas pedal to the floor 8. Realease the gear knob while holding gas pedal depressed to the floor. Off we go Enjoy! |

My car doesn't even need left foot braking, just M mode with DSC off in S3 and just gear knob forward then it shows launch control activated, but... I see that if I give it gas, the car moves veeery slowly, that's why you might have to use the brake, but not neccesary!

Has anyone checked out the digital owners manual that comes with the car? Ironically there is a step by step on how to launch the car.
