Headlight washer won't retract

Just recently when I use my headlight washers, they work fine, but one of the jets wont retract into the bumper, leaving it just sticking out!

I can push it back it and with encouragement it does retract.

Do to replace the unit or is there a quicker fix?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Tom

Do you have a sufficiently high concentration of anti-freeze screen wash? A common cause of the jets sticking out is due to icing.
I suggest that you flush the system and refill with undiluted screen wash.

Thanks Jon!

The problem had started to occur towards the end of the summer so it's not a freezing issue.

Now I've a bit of time with the holidays coming up I was hoping to tackle it but only getting round to it now!

I think I've had this on another car and the washer fluid had turned a bit jelly-like, and had started to clog up the system. Think I pulled the hoses and flushed everything out fully, includng the filters in the reservoir.

Sorry for the bump on this but mine has just started doing the same. Still washing ok (went outside to check with brother operating it) but won't retract. Have only ever used BMW fluid (as I understand this can also cause an issue) so wondering if you got sorted Tom? Thanks

I didn't ever get to the bottom of it! Though this happened last week (see pic attached) and hoping the new bumper etc that my fellow car-park resident is going to supply me with will solve the problem!
Every cloud and all that...

PS. This is not an advisable method to replace a non-retracting headlight washer! There has to be an easier, more hassle-free option!!
