Question Help needed! What are the changes from 2015 to 2017 for the 650i?

Hey Everyone,
I need your help! My sister is looking at the 650i sedan and the dealer by her has a 2015 and a 2017 on the lot both with 0 miles. They are offering her $20,000 off sticker for the 2015 even before she started negotiating. My question is this, what is better/different on the 2017 model that is not available on the 2015? I know she said she want Apple Car play which I don't think is available on the 2015. Any thoughts? I have an E92 M3 so I don't know much about the 6 series. Thanks for any insight you can provide!
Andreas

Keep bargaining. When I was shopping for my GC a dealership was offering me $20k off of 2017 models to make way for 2018s without me even asking...

As far as I know, 2015 does not have the LCI updates that the 2016 models got. Those changes were new headlights, 1 less kidney grille slat (9 down from 10), different side mirrors with integrated turn signals, LED headlights standard, and two tone leather accents inside. 2017 models have wifi hotspot standard, wireless phone charging, and the latest idrive on top of that.

Going off the top of my head:

2015 is pre-LCI
Main difference is the headlights and nicer screen. That's about it really....
No apple car play and older NBT navigation system.

Have you looked which one is better optioned?
You should run the VINs and compare that way.
How much are they asking for the 2015?
It should be at most around $70K to make it worth your while.
Honestly I'd go either with the 2017 or a used low mileage 2015 (~$55K).
Though I suppose the 2015 will still have 4 year factory warranty so that is a nice perk.

Thanks for the info! Anyone have an idea how I can get the window sticker to compare options/pricing using the VIN? I have searched and monroneylabels.com wants to charge me for it, any other sites that don't charge? If you are getting $20K off a 2017 what is a good discount off a 2015?

I would figure it this way: find a similarly optioned 2015 with low miles and CPO. Take that price and add $0.20 per mile. That's the price i would pay. So lets say you find a CPO 2015 for $50K with 25,000 miles, my offer would be $55K. Otherwise its not worth buying a new 3 year old car. GL.

Thanks for the advice! This gives me some good negotiating data when she puts in an offer at the dealer. I figure if she goes between Christmas and New Years, combined with the end of the month, they will be eager to get the car off their books before 2018 starts!

The 2015 is pre-LCI. You'll lose the later iDrive (including nicer screen and software), LED standard lights, iDrive with writing recognition, full digital dash, and some others. I actually think the LCI for the 6GC was quite significant. The discount would need to be pretty huge to go for a 2015 IMHO - just due to the age alone, forget having no mileage, it'll be discounted significantly. The 6-series depreciates like a rock.

My 2017 (2 months shy of 1st year anniversary) only has a few thousand miles, and MSRP was $113k. I bet it has easily lost $25k - $30k of value.

Almost 100% false. The LED Headlights became standard on 2014 models, as did the digital dash. You're right that the headlights were revised, but pre LCI are still LEDs (unless you're looking at 2013). I believe the majority of people prefer the pre-LCI headlights. The updated Idrive knob with writing option came in 2015. The only thing that changes after 2015 is the Idrive and possibly some minor details which are not worth the upsell. The only thing I agree with that may make a difference to some people is the age. Actually - the newest IDrive 5.0 from the G01 7 series with gimmicky motion gestures can be retrofitted for under $2K, if that really is that big of a deal to some.

Seen 2014 cars with xenon headlights at least on UK spec cars. Never thought it was standard until LCI although not adaptive versions. The same 2014 car had the updated idrive knob as well.

Although the LCI over here was definitely 2015 as my build was March 2015 and is an LCI car. I think the US did not see the LCI m sport till later on though.

Maybe I'm wrong, I just don't recall ever seeing a 2014 model year without LED headlights. Maybe it was not standard on 640is?

it wasn't standard on 640's or 650's, but was a common add on, and part of the Msport edition, which a lot of 2014 Msports had.
