E39 M5. It's a mutt...abused by its former owner and brought back to life with enough money and the help of a top-notch local shop (Import Motor Werks in Cary, NC). It'll never be a show pony; I fix the big, expensive things that break and keep it clean. 162K on the clock, doesn't drink oil and has a trunk big enough for that occasional trip to Costco, Home Depot and whatnot.
Still a hoot to drive and I get tons of compliments on the good looks of this car from random folks. |

2017 X3. Lease ends soon and I am conflicted on what to get next.
I need: comfortable room for two kids and all sports stuff/bikes, AWD and snow clearance for MN winters. CarPlay and not boring to drive is a nice to have. I’ve driven rwd M cars w/ blizzaks over 6-8 winters and I am over it. Save money options: lease RAV4, buy older Sienna or outback Spend more: lease X3 M40i or buy used Cayenne or Macan, Range Rover sport.... Lease M40i is currently top contender. I daily an old Alpina C2 2.7, and the F80 is the fun fast car. To be fair, both are a total blast in different ways.

I agree, Dealer gave me one as a loaner car and said "make sure you drive it in sport mode". Wow! totally impressed.. Fast, little body roll in corners, extremely comfortable and luxurious. A must drive before you decide what to buy.

2018 E63S Estate or 2018 M3CS. Both great daily cars. Lots of room, plenty fast, doesn't draw too much attention, and comfortable (especially the Benz).

in 11 months, My M4cs will be the daily driver through the end of its lease
...in the meantime, I have 11 months remaining on my 2017 Jetta SE 5spd lease. It's an okay car, surprisingly zippy, decent turbo TQ to press you against your seat in 2nd-4th gears between 2,000-4,000 RPM, not much happens below that, and not much happens after that either. The entire interior panels/dash are hard-touch plastics, but at least its screwed together solidly. And I can't complain about averaging 36mpg round trip to/from work and running a few arrands, plus the $125/mo payment from VW's sign/drive $0.00 (true zero down) was a plus

The point of a daily is driving something that you don’t care about getting hit, thrown up on, thrown up in, scratched up, driven in a snow belt; etc. Personally, I like taking my ///M cars on long drives but for commuting I would use something else I don’t really care as much about.

I was just referring to the fact the M3/4 are derivatives of standard commuter cars and can each comfortably carry multiple passengers while being practical. So nothing about it screams impractical/weekend car vs something like a Porsche or Corvette for example. But to each their own. |

My M3 is not a weekend car. I drive it whenever I feel like - daily it as you may say.
The term daily beater to me is when I dont want to take my M3 to roads underconstruction, to ghetto neighborhoods where I have to park my car overnight,..etc I have a choice to take the M3 and the Honda Fit, which one would I take? The Fit ofcourse. That my way of a Daily Beater. Bonus fact: I know a lot of familiar cars on my work commute. They all drive normal while I am on the Fit but turn to dicks when I am on the M3. Funny to see how the car trigger them up. It makes me want to get a custom bumper sticker: "I know you fast, I know you're cool, now get the fuck off!" |
