Don't yell

Just asking here....I know we all love the RWD M's but when does the M6 come with an AWD option? Anyone know? Not wanting the M5.

Next platform will come with same option as the F90 M5... 4 wheel drive with the option to send all power to the rears. Note the M6 will most likely be the new M8... so i hear at least

So that ought to be 2018...not sure they need the name change

oops, misread your note---M5 AWD available in 2018 but do we know when the next platform for M6 is expected?

RWD is fun. I always said that and still believe it but now that I'm driving M4 with usable power as RWD, I would say for the power territory of under 500 HP and the range of sub 4000 lb weight, RWD is lots of fun with no doubt but for a monster like M6 that power cannot be usable with RWD configuration. I had some great launches with M6 but the majority of time the car was suffering putting down that power/torque so basically an adaptive AWD system to use AWD at launch or sharp curves and RWD for the rest of the time, will be the best solution for a heavy car with 600+ HP

As far as I know, it is just a lot of rumors flying around with speculation about what will happen to the 5-series GT, 6-series/M6, & potential 8-series.

Next Gen 6-series is rumored to be 2019. I would guess M6 is slotted for 2020.

Then, there is also the 8-series:

It is funny how the current B6 is going to be the same drivetrain as the next gen M5 with awd and the 8 speed auto

6 series coupe and cabrio were discontinued on Friday. The GC will continue to march on forward... I thought the 2 door platform would have had at least made it to the end of the year. I guess they need to make room for the 8 series

It is not D/C completely, just current version.

I have faith that a real M6 will be out with AWD in 2019. Meanwhile, the GTR is not a bad interim winter/summer car....

No offence but IMO GTR is not at the level to be compared to M6....
GTR is a super sport car , track car and rocket from standstill with no doubt but as far as luxurious, beauty , comfort and quality of EVERYTHING , is not even close!

That's what I thought till I got one. No question on the luxury quotient of the M6, it's incredible--beautiful to behold. The GTR, however, gets more amazing the more I drive--the tech and grip awesome. Maybe just variety adding the spice, have to justify having too many cars somehow.... But with the power in the M6, looks like consensus is that AWD will handle the power more effectively--kind of like the GTR.

That's why I purchased a 650 xdrive, and then tuned it.

To be completely honest, couldn't afford the M, didn't want the stiffer suspension, bigger brakes (650 are big enough for North America), and wanted all wheel drive. Also didn't want a convertible (ugly when roof is up, sorry cabs).

So now I have the looks of the coupe, comfy and sporty drive, all wheel drive and a fair amount of power, certainly enough to waste an M light to light.

Next step is water-meth injection to get more power but reliability may be an an issue so may not pull the trigger. Alpina in a coupe would of have been very nice.

RWD is fun but BMW traction control SUCKS, and when tuned all that power is useless.

It will be an M8, not M6. 6-Series will only continue in GT form, i.e., 4 door hatch, based on the newest 5-Series chassis. M8 will have M X Drive, with 8-speed auto.
