LED Reverse bulb

So the reverse bulb for the M6/6er is 921K but 194 also works. I've been searching for LED replacements with better light output. Has anyone replaced theirs and get better light output/visibility? If so, do share...

Great question! I was just thinking my backup light is WAY too dim. Can't see anything on the backup camera at night

Not many options at the moment. Any LED's will consume less power and thus cause a code thinking one of the lights are malfunction/out. On top of this, I've yet to find the correct housing/mold for the LED to fit. I spent $40 on very bright "non China" ones, the ones used on Teslas to be exact, and they did not fit. I created a thread on this a few months ago as well and nobody could get fully functioning.

Tutorials from 5 forums won't work, the light connections for 6 are not the same.
Backup camera is really not great in low-light. I would love to have this working correctly.

Good info, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately no light at the end of the "backup" tunnel My Audi Q7's backup camera is amazing in low light (looks like night vision almost). Really miss that in my M6

I wonder if coding would solve the problem of getting a "light malfunction" light

There are very few LED companies that work without having fault codes.
Its hit and miss.
I'll check when I get to the shop what brands I've had the best luck with

codemycar.com claims they can program the car to accept higher output bulbs.

Another option is to replace your headlight switch to activate your rear fog lights.

I bought these for my M5 a few months ago and they are very bright, white around 5k and no codes so far.

They sell sets for each BMW. I have a few friend switch these on their e60 and no issues as well.

I can take some shots when I get home next week. They make a huge difference

My apologies. Forgot to include the link

This link is for the 5 series. My work in 6 but if not, look at his store. He has them for each vehicle

Darn. I just checked that ebay link and the seller (BlastLED) does not offer a LED reverse light product for the F06/12/13 M6.

Message him and see. Maybe it is missed. His store is huge and hard to navigate

Will the F10 bulb work on F06/12/13? Just a thought.

I just sent him a msg. Will keep you guys updated. Theoretically, the F10 921 bulb should work, but I bought a sylvania 921 Canbus LED bulb and it prompted a "light malfunction" message and did not light up.

So here's what the seller states:

Hello,

So many of our clients/buyers have put these in new BMW models and haven't encounter any issue since we had to customized to make it work in the Volkswagen Passat B7 since Passat B7 were throwing errors. I'm confident that it'd work in BMW new models too. but if for certain reasons, you have an issue, We can send you free return shipping label at our cost.

Once you confirm it, We would create new listing for you guys and everything comes with 1-year free replacement warranty.

I guess it's worth a shot...

So far I have personally haven't had any codes come on yet and have driven a few thousand miles.

Good luck and I've heard the seller is easy to work with.

I ended up installing 921K bulbs. You have to code the bulb warning sign since LED bulbs will make the car think the bulbs are out. Worth it IMO.

One of the issues I see is the design of the housing. BMW did not leave much room (length wise) so you are extremely limited to the LED lights that you can purchase. Most have lengths that are too long & it will not fit.

That is roughly 42mm length. Hope it works but take a look at your current bulb while its installed. You'll see there's not much gap from the tip of the bulb to the housing.
