I can assure you that if you are polite and diligent you can receive diminished value money. Mine was nothing (Damage was only $3k, basically a new rear bumper cover as the white foam under eat wasn't even compressed) and I received over $8k in diminished value from the insured's carrier.
Glad all is ok and keep your head up.

I DO AGREE ... A VERY UGLY ALBATROSS! I WAS IN THE SAME BOAT WITH OUR 2006 330 XI 2.5 years into it ... dam drunk driver ... $15k damage with my wife and 6 month old in the back seat ... car repaired and gone ASAP ... thank GOD it was one of the 2 leased cars I ever had in the driveway ... BMW Canada Took the Hit!!! As for the one line in the carfax report ... my last M6 I had a vandal slashed the roof ... $10 k cost to replace, and $10 K stat deck against the car here in BC Canada .. anything over $2k has to be declared ... buyers questioned the stat dec and expected to low ball me even though the stat dec was specific that a new cloth roof and mechanism had to be placed and no other damage ... ultimately I just dropped off the keys at the dealer when it came to sell/trade my 2007 M6 ... never any body damage or accident ... D^% Vandal I am glad you are fine bro ... I'd find a nice GAP car until the next Gen M6 ... or a nice V10 some where! Happy motoring and to many new happy memories! I really hope you are feeling no pain ... my wife still has neck pain from the 2008 re-ender in her 330XI Best wishes Sunny

Does anybody know which outfit is responsible for reporting to Carfax (insurance co., repair shop, etc.)?
How long does it take for the blackmark to appear on the report? |

I had a huge rear end accident that was over $15K in damages (cars value was the same) but it wasn't totaled, it was repaired. That repair didn't show up on car fax. Same car before was backed into, rear bumper was replaced, that didn't show up on car fax, but it showed up in the insurance companies database as having a prior accident. It takes a while, because they need to update the database. I would say a month or so to show up on Carfax. Usually when cars are taken into dealer inventory, it roughly takes a month from what I have seen to be reported on Carfax. |

Open the trunk and lift the panel that hides the tools and mobility kit (air pump for your tires) if that area seems warped you have frame damage. BMW will have to cut the trunk bed and refit a new one. Nasty repair but unfortunately not enough to total the car as the industry standard requirements for that are that 1) damages exceed 75% (or sometimes 80%) of the car's total value, or that the vehicle would be unsafe to drive after the repair, neither of which would be the case here. Either the insurance company or the shop will report the accident. Shops usually only report it if there is an insurance claim though since they are obligated to in those cases.
