UK - Considering trading my 520d for 640d GC - What options should I look for?
Hi all
Had a 520d LCI for a couple years now and I have a growing itch that needs scratching to change to a Gran Coupe. My budget is not huge, I would be limited to a 640d but that's still a huge step up from where I am now. Things I can't live without from my 520d in no particular order (I know some of these will be standard anyway): Heated seats HK Sound system Dual Zone Advanced Climate Enhanced Bluetooth NBT System (there's probably more I can't think of now) Things I definitely want: Folding rear seats Electric seats High beam assistant Folding mirrors Things I'd like Camera fitted to take advantage of those features Heated steering wheel So I can't think of anything else off the top of my head right now, but my main questions are what would you suggest I definitely try to look for in a used model, and what were the main changes from Pre LCI to LCI? As I said, my budget isn't massive but I hope I can find something that fits the bill. Last edited by 325_bucks; 01-17-2017 at 01:54 PM.. |

all of those things are standard on the GC, bar camera and upgrade sound unless you buy a later car that has HK as standard, i would also insist on pan roof and 20" alloys, also sun protection and comfort seats i would also avoid that terrible standard metal trim.
Other than that you won't regret it, i certainly miss my one, i think it was better daily drive than my current m6. Also I wouldn't touch a none BMW AUC, for the warranty alone, theres loads out there due to the low rate finance and lease cars that has caused oversupply. My advice is be picky. oh yes many have service pack too |

Hi
I changed to my 640d GC last year, so far I'm really impressed. Get as many options as possible, when buying used, you hardly pay any extra for most. I would make sure you get.... 1) Surround view. It's amazing how useful it is, the GC is huge. 2) HUD. I don't have it on mine, I will on my next one. I Like the auto high beam, speed limit indicator, posh seats, good nav, good stereo etc etc. Good luck with your search. |

sure m sport a must, theres a few hi specced ex demo SEs around that should be avoided at all cost in my view. Mate of mine purchased a 335d SE as he's budget didn't stretch to an m sport, suffice to say he regrets it to this day and cant give the SE away

Ceramic finish does lift the interior, but c£400 when new for gear knob and radio controls is crazy, issue is that once you've had these small but tasteful options spoil you, your next purchase becomes more difficult. The rear blind is also a nice touch as is steering wheel heating

hmmm, looks like its going to get expensive!
I've bought my last 2 BMWs from main dealer, do you think its worth it again or look elsewhere? Also were there any changes between 2013 and 2014? If not then 2013 could open up the field a bit |

i don't think there were many changes between 13/14 model year, key changes can in 15. Whats your budget, prices for the 640d GC and C did plummet for a while though appear to have stabled out, this is always the case with the dogs in the market place are cleared out. My advice by an AUC and bargain hard, subject to your status there doing some great finance deals 3% i think with big discounts.

I've just paid off finance on my 520, I'm probably looking to buy this cash this time. Got some possible life changes on the way and want to reduce my debt as much as possible. So at this time my budget is only about £27k, I can see though that this is going to be difficult to find something that meets the requirements for. Might have to go to the dark Mercedes side!

I've found one that looks good, mileage a bit high but would trade off on that for the spec as my mileage will be low. Has Msport plus pack, Multifunction Instrument, Sun protection, shadow line trim, speed limit display, not a bad package all in. I've spoken to them about it, it's a bit out of budget but might be able to do a bit of haggling. How much do you think you can haggle of a AUC if paying cash? |

I think the most important spec for these cars is either surround view or rear cam just purely because of the size of the thing. Good luck |

I'll have to see. I have quite a strict budget so I will have to stay strong and if I can't get it for what I need then might have to pass until something else comes up. How much bigger is it than a 5 series? Not saying I'm anything special but I've never had a problem with parking that with just the sensors. And in my wife's car with camera, it makes me even more disoriented looking at it! |

typically an AUC dealer will have less than 10% margin in the sale, hence the push to finance, typically at rates between 8-11%. Id never use dealer finance on a used car, load of brokers out there who will happily sell you finance at much <5%.
When i purchased my 640d i was given some sales crap that the screen price assume finance with BMW and if went down my own finance route there would be a £500 screen price hike, it was a cash sale with no PX. Problem is that the deals on new cars are so good the used market is struggling, hence the push for them to flog you a loan. Here is a pic of my 2013 car |
