Power loss?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I've noticed quite a few times now that when I step hard on the accelerator from dead stop, the car seems to lose power. By that I mean you hear the engine rev but you don't feel the wheels spin from behind you. Instead, it feels like the car can't find the right gear to engage to get it moving. This is with just the normal settings with no M settings used.

Anyone experience this?

I used to get this when I'm driving it in auto mode. Have you tried using the paddles? It doesn't happen when I use those.

No, I haven't tried it with the paddles. Let me test it out with that. This power loss on auto mode drives me nuts and is embarrassing when you're trying to outrun someone from a dead stop.

Are you sure that's not just the DSC kicking in, preventing unwanted wheelspin?

I don't know. All I know is that the car becomes sluggish and barely moves for a few seconds before recognizing that I want to move fast.

Try changing your shift settings to the highest it can go and see if the problem persists. In my e92 M3, in standard mode (3 bars I believe), if I downshift and get on the gas too quickly there is no power at all. However, if I wait less than a second, I will get back pedal feel and power. In the higher shift settings, this lag decreases.

Hopefully this helps

That is exactly what I felt when it happened. I will try your suggestion.

This happened to me frequently and I found it annoying. That was until I found out it was the DSC. As soon as I modified my acceleration i.e. backed off, it resolved. Also, switching to MDM will have a similar result by limiting the DSC. Switching all nannytech off will really solve the problem. I had to go to M school to figure this out. That was my problem. Yours may or may not be the same. I hope your problem is simple enough. Good luck.
