Why does the regular 6 have a nicer shifter
I just noticed this. I feel like the shifter in the regular 6 series is nicer than in my M6. I think it looks cooler and more modern. Maybe its just me.

I think it is all personal preference. I had a 650i before the M6 and I prefer the M6's shift knob. Closer to a manual knob and feels better in the hand.

Having had both, I prefer the M6 shifter. The plastic housing is surprisingly cheap in a car of this caliber, but the tall goofy looking shifter just blows.

With you.. I'd gladly keep the current M DCT shift knob over that other monstrosity.

The 650 knob does look a bit nicer than normal when it has the ceramic finishing.

While I'll agree about the plastic surround, the M shifter knob looks 100x better to me, and i love the way it fits in my hand. The 650 shifter looks very blocky and uncomfortable to me.

Maybe I'm missing something but isn't that M6 shifter a DCT and the 6er an auto? (I see the "P" on the 6er shifter which obviously wouldn't exist on the DCT shifter)...
Maybe its just DCT vs Auto... |

I'm driving around in a 640i GC MSport I got as a loaner while my car is in service. Nothing about this shifter is nicer. djsaad1 You can buy the plastic trim in carbon fiber from BMW. I have it on my M6 and it's a nice upgrade. nyy13lal24dal9 I think all the buttons and the boxiness of the automatic shifter is busy and looks bad. GlobalRSInc. unfortunately the all digital dash still hasn't made its way to the M cars. That's the only thing I wish we had from the standard 6. Otherwise the M6 wins on all other fronts.

The shape of the M6 shifter is much nicer than the regular 6 IMO. If you don't like the silver plastic, change it for the CF version, especially if you have CF trim.
