I'm sorry, but that sounds like Dealer-speak for "We don't know what the fuck is wrong with your car, but we have to tell you something, so here it is. Low fuel."

lmfao. Thats exactly what i thought.

I really hope that it doesn't come back because I really hate leaving car at dealership.
Yea exactly. Cross fingers.

That's unfortunate. Sorry to hear that. Any help from BMW AG or NA?

Hi Andreo,

BMW NA contacted the dealer but everything is going at a snail pace. This new dealership claimed that ECU was reading 17 refills of medium grade gas out of total 19 refills. I am so tired of this blame game...

It is clear that their level of urgency in solving this is not matching your expectation. For that, there really is no harm for you to politely inform BMW AG and voice your concerns over the quality of the vehicle they have produced. Something is clearly wrong here and it is of no fault of yours. For every passing day this vehicle remains to be unreliable, your confidence in the brand continues to deteriorate. Writing to them to express your disappointment and eagerness to get the vehicle to perform as it should will undoubtedly get their attention. It is time to kick it up a notch.

Thanks guys, I just picked my car last Friday. This time, they drove 60 miles without telling and at a different dealer. They said they cannot duplicate the problem, but SA saw it b/c I drove it in while it was doing the misfiring. Anyway, they printed out report from the car. It shows that I've been filling it with medium grade quality gas/89 octane 17 times out 19 which I never did. SA said that there is nothing they can do. He suggested that I should contact BMW NA which I currently am, and try to get them to send out their engineer to look into this.

I will take Andreo advice if BMW NA isn't going to do anything in the next few weeks and bring it to BMW AG.

In the meantime, I'm stuck with this POS car.

Hi neversummer78. Any progress from BMW NA? Didn't hear from you for a while now. Hope the issues are getting addressed.

Hi Andreo,

Nope, this is the last email from the guy who owns my case on it on May 14th.

"Good afternoon Mr P...,

I have submitted the dealerships notes on Galo’s analysis from Friday. The regional field team is going to review the request for a Technical Service Engineer to inspect the vehicle and will let me know shortly if it can be arranged. As soon as they send me an update, I will let you know immediately.

Kind regards,
Damian"

I got another Drivetrain Malfuction error on May 17th, but I was lazy to post. However, I believe that this issue is everywhere on this particular engine model. I am quite certain that with poor octane rating, max 91 in US, I can replicate this problem on all BMW with this engine model. At a certain load, in Sport mode, at red line, this engine's default ECU mapping is probably too aggressive for 91 octane rating gasoline. At this point, I can reproduce this problem on demand. I am planning to test my theory with octane booster and see if my theory is right. With octane booster, octane rating will be bumped to 93-94 with 16 gallons tank. Then, I will go drive the same way I drive the entire tank and see if the problem comes back. If it doesn't, then I know BMW got major issue on their hands. Probably, this is the reason why they have been avoiding me because they don't have any real fix for it.

It looks like a long battle for me.

Thanks Andreo!

Wow. Now I am really curious what the Service Engineer has got to say. I hope he does not say you have to drive the car differently. Just kidding. Lol.

If this whole thing about the gas octane level can be proven, this brings it to a whole new level. You are looking at the possibility of receiving a brand new car (or at least new engine) with a remapped ECU from BMW AG. 2014 model perhaps?

Keep us posted and good luck.

Thanks Andreo,

I have been driving it more frequently. I am planning to do Los Angeles to San Francisco trip soon and going to drive the hell out of this car. 1 tank without octane booster and 2nd tank with it.

I love BMW because they build driver's car, but if BMW thinks I have to change my driving style then I will see them in court.
