Key holder in M6
As you may know, the M5 has a cavity between he cup holders for placing your key fob when you are in the car. However, the M6 has no such cavity, but it does have a channel connecting the cup holders where I sometimes place my key fob. The problem is that the key fob then moves between the cup holders when the car is moving. Has anyone come up with, or purchased, a trim piece for that channel that will hold the key fob in place? If so, I would appreciate learning about what you are doing or using. Thanks.

I never used the key fob holder on my 535. My keys are always in my jacket pocket or pants pocket.

Living in NYC, it is not always advisable to keep the key fob on one's person, since the car gets valet parked every day. So it is often easier, and more sensible, to leave the key in the car so I do not inadvertently walk out of the parking garage with the key, and the attendants then cannot move the car. Thus my desire for some sort of key fob holder.

I never understood why my X6M had a key fob holder in the first place. Why would anyone want to take the fob out of your pocket (or briefcase, purse, etc)?
I very rarely drive without pants on... |

Where indeed to put the key? Even with pants!
I totally agree with Manhattan. BMW should have thought of a space. It wouldn't have been that tough. But now the car is so tight, and so beautiful, that some carved-out space for the key seems silly and harmful.
Look, for all you jokers who talk about pants, I don't want to have the darn key in my pants while I'm driving! A big hunk of plastic sticking into my thigh and annoying me. BMW should have figured out a little cubbyhole. But, just as with cup-holders, the company will respond to consumers' desires in, oh, about 20 years. I'm looking forward to my 2035 M6! |

Yep there should be a spot for the key and the cup holder just cannot fit some bottles properly.

Here is a suggestion: cut two strips of the "felt-side" of VELCO and place them on either side of the channel between the cup holders, and that should narrow that gap to hold the key fob in place. Since I also live in NYC, and have my car parked in a garage, I completely understand the issue. BTW -- this is as legitimate a topic as many others in this forum.

is the little ashtray thing not a good spot? nothing else really fits in there for me, I got a small thing of almonds on my drive to california that fit nicely in there otherwise it goes unused unless I needed a key spot (my particular situation is good with them staying in my pocket)

hmm, ya never tried to close. Our keys are actually pretty large aren't they? The delership gave me a BMW keychain that is pretty nice, the ones with the leather backing and the metal part with BMW etc... But that keychain plus my 2 keys and this huge car key, I think I am gonna ditch the keychain!
